Yes, it's worth it if you live in the right area
Just finally finished installation and yes, this is totally worth it, with a couple caveats.1) If you live in an area where it cools at night (I'm on the West Coast).2) Temp drop inside the house of almost 10 degrees upstairs in about 2 hours with unit on high.3) Installation is tough (but it's an easy concept). Depends on how much room you have in your attic.4) Unit is loud (taking away one star). On low level, there's a rattle so I will look to rectify that.5) It will also cool your attic, which is a plus. With an aging A/C unit, I debated spending the thousand dollars but figured it's much cheaper than getting a new A/C unit so I'm hoping this will buy us some time and it appears it most certainly will. If you are debating, I would suggest making the purchase, but again, make sure that your climate makes sense.*UPDATE*Adding a star to full 5 stars. Although installation was tough - an easy concept but depending on your attic space, difficult, this unit is truly a game changer. I was also able to fix the rattle quite easily. After three days, and only really needing the low speed, our house has significantly cooled at night, one night as much as 20 degrees. Wish I had done this sooner and saved money on my AC and electric bill.

Whole House Fan
Very straightforward with the directions. I was able to install by myself in 3 hours. We have a ranch / finished basement of about 3200 sq ft. We really only open windows on the main floor. Low speed allows 3 windows open with a nice cross breeze. Here in Colorado the evening cools and this fan is perfect for lowering the inside temps.

Pulls alot of air
The unit pulls alot of air but the remote failed to work consistently. I could not shut off the fan and when it did I could not turn it back on. I called customer support on the remote and they will be sending me a new remote and receiver. The bad part is my installer will have to be paid to come back or I could do it myself.

This thing "SUCKS"
Received the two boxes yesterday by UPS, they were in perfect condition. I opened them up to make sure I had all the parts needed to install myself. After reading the directions, I decided I would do this myself without any help. Decided where I wanted the grill drilled the small holes from the attic side, and cut the hole out. Ther rest was uneventful just followed along the clear directions and install the unit. I will say attaching the duct to the fan housing is a little difficult by yourself. I laid the housing on the rafters and installed it that way and not doing it while it was hanging. Attaching the duct to the ceiling box was not an issue. what is not in the directions is the mounting of the grill on the house side. The grill screws that are on the rafter side screw into the rafter, but in my case the opposite side has nothing to screw to so you will need to add wood blocking to that side of the box. All I did was cut a 2''x3'' the width between the brackets holding up the unit, and glued it to the sheet rock. let the glue dry and then installed the screws. I also screwed the grill frame to the housing in the attic from the side, so now the grill frame are tight to one another, there are holes in the grill frame for this. My house is a raised ranch, 1100 SqFt. I bought the bigger unit because I have a lot of vent space in my attic. I hooked up the remote module. paired the remote, and turned on the fan from the attic to make sure all was good. Then I started hearing noises from the house below. I shut off the fan and climbed down. Did a quick look and saw nothing. I turned on the fan again. The noise was my flooring. I have sheet vinyl floating floors in all of my rooms. I did not open and window and the vacuum created from the fan was pulling up the air under my flooring, and all the rooms puffed up in the middle. I laughed really hard. I shut off the fan opened my two sliders, and the floors went back to normal. Then I turned on the fan to high with my sliders open and WOW what a breeze. My house was freezing in minutes it was 35 degrees outside. I cannot wait for the spring time to turn this thing on and feel the fresh air rush through my house. This will be good from spring cleaning any dust that kicks up will be sucked up out of the air and pushed in and out the roof venting. It took me about 2 hours to install without any help. This would be good project for someone with basic knowledge of hand tools. Just go slow and take your time. I am quite handy I have gutted and renovated rooms and bathrooms all myself.. I do all my own house work.

Game changer
Love our whole house fan. We got a slightly more powerful one that what was recommended for our home size. The 5500 is what we got for our 1650 square foot home. Setup and install was relatively straight forward and on low mode you can hardly hear it and in high speed it’s about the same loudness as the AC running. We use it with the kitchen window open in the corner of the house and the breeze fully circulates through the house for rapid cooling. We went almost 3 weeks without having to use our AC but as the heat wave starts now I’m so glad wr have this to start saving on our cooling costs. The only issue I ran into was the remote was faulty and not working properly when trying to activate it. I called the company and the owner of Centric Air called me and sent the info to the other company who makes their remote. The owner of that company also called me to assess the issue and immediately sent me the replacement remote and controller. I did have to climb back into the attic and rewire the controller to the fan as the remote is preprogrammed and paired with the controller. It works perfectly now and all our friends want one now.
