I just started drilling holes in plastic. I originally bought some smaller step hole drill bits in a kit. But they weren't big enough for anything I wanted to drill. That was my mistake, I didn't actually look up or measure the sizes of the connectors I had, I just went by how big I thought they looked. So, I ended up buying this 1/4 to 1 3/8 inch bit. So far it has been working out pretty well. Just keep steady pressure while drilling and it will slowly strip away plastic until you get to the desired sized step. The media could not be loaded. This bit did an outstanding job. Cutting oil and low RPM prevented overheat and allowed the bit to stay sharp. I used it to grind 2 inches off an unused galvanized radiator supply pipe (not the bit’s design purpose) to allow my wood floor to be patched. The bit performed flawlessly.

This drill bit is a great value for the size range it supports, going all the way up to 2 3/8”. The bit is sharp enough to cut through wood well, it was easy to use and with a shaft diameter of .475” it fit great into my 1/2 drill chuck. The quality is great, numbers are easy to read, only wish it was printed on both sides. Needs to run at a lower speed so it cuts better otherwise it seems to like to grab the material. It likes thicker materials better and seems to grab less. Overall impressed

Excellent multi drill bit. Drilled through aluminum easily to enlarge pilot hole, 2nd hole drilled with just this bit and it drilled out quickly and precisely. Great addition to my set of drill bits. One bit replaces many separate bits.

First time I have used a step bit. I was very impressed. Made my project much easier.

Was a one trick pony item for me, just got it to drill a hole in a plastic panel for a panel mount usb charger. At some point i'm sure I'll need it for something else, in plastic it cut a nice hole, we'lll see how it holds up to metals at a later date.

This step drill could not get the job done. I bought this tool for one specific purpose, to drill 4 total, one inch holes in a 3/16 thick A500 steel square tube (somewhat mild steel).I did modify the diameter in a circular grinding fixture to remove the largest hole sizes and have a long step at the one inch size. BUT:After drilling a pilot start hole, the cutter worked reasonably well until it got near 1/3 to 5/8 inch diamter, then slowed down considerably . Pleenty of cutting oil and low drill speeds, but it never got near one inch. Part of the problem was I was trying to drill through 3/16 inch thick steel, but this is very mild steel and east to drill.I knew I would be safer with a step drill instead of a reduced shank twist drill, but the step drill lost some of it's titanium coating on the smaller steps before getting to one inch.I had to buy another style hole drill (TCT hole drill), and that drill did the job well.
