The solar panel does nothing on my unit
The bad news first: I have tried every method I can think of and I cannot see where the PV panel does anything. In the photos you can see the current flow out of the battery. In the photo showing 38.3 milliamperes, the battery is powering the radio on the AM band. Shading the PV panel makes no difference because it is contributing nothing. In the next photo the amp meter shows 0.0 milliamperes. The unit is turned completely off and the battery is nearly dead; it needs to be charged and the panel, again, is doing nothing. I have even removed the battery from the radio and measured the voltage appearing at the battery terminals with the panel in full sun—0.49 volts, not enough to do anything. I checked the voltage at the other charging outlets with the battery removed and the panel in full sun: 0.0 volts.Apparently, the manufacturer does not know what the panel does either because it’s never referenced in the directions. You would think the manufacturer would discuss when and how to charge the battery using the PV panel but there is no mention of the panel in the directions. You can judge for yourself in the attached photo. Those are the complete directions; there is no additional page other than a photo describing the various features.Other than than the useless PV panel, the radio and the other functions work pretty well. The audio on FM and AM is very clear and surprisingly loud for such a small unit. However, when the audio contains much bass, the speaker, or something in the radio, tends to buzz annoyingly.I bought the radio especially for its solar charging capability so that I could carry it with me while doing farm chores and have the sun provide power and charge the battery. That didn’t work out. Fail.
