Russian vs. American Lolitas
I have seen both American Lolita movies before I saw the Russian version. They all have their individual strengths. The American versions are both following Nabokov’s novel closely and Kubrick’s is the best directed and produced film of the two. Because they follow the novel they both have sad and tragic endings. The Russian Lolita is more loosely based on the novel but has a happy ending. If you like the erotic parts of the story the Russian has more nudity and sex, probably because the legal age in Russia is16 instead of 18. The Russian Lolita actress is also more flirtatious and seductive than the American counterparts which makes the erotic scenes seem more natural and consequential and not just added for cheap thrills. I also enjoyed a happy ending in contrast to the American ones, but I give all three 5 stars.

Strange & naughty fluff
A low budget European style foreign version of Nabakov's tale is sweeter & more innocently frank than the original Hollywood horror story production. Nobody gets hurt & the talented actors resolve the conflict with a smile on their faces. Simple straight-forward B movie erotic fantasy that satisfies as long as the popcorn and beer taste good and serve as a tastey diversion from a movie plot conceived in bad taste. Don't waste your money unless you can afford to.

Unique and Different
I've seen both US movies and read the book. This goes a step further and becomes more explicit and funny. I laughed a few times. It's not the greatest movie, but it has some redeeming value..

Not Nabokov, but intriguing
I had previously watched the two American versions of Nabokov's Lolita before viewing this one. I thought those two should have had a little more explicit content (i.e., nudity) to better reveal the lure of Lolita. That was not a problem in this version. By the end of the movie, Lolita has no secrets from us. I found her physique quite lovely. Oddly, perhaps, I found nothing lurid about the movie. By the time the surprise ending was over, I felt my spirits uplifted as rarely a movie does. The language was Russian, and the English subtitles were good, although there were bits of conversation that were not subtitled. I recommend the movie to anyone not turned off by nudity or sexual gymnastics.

Glitch-free disk, but. . .
Someone reviewed this saying, “Just like the traditional story.” Clearly, that was *extreme* sarcasm. This has NOTHING to do with the novel, or the two REAL movies based on the novel. If you’re hoping to find an alternative to the Kubrick and Jeremy Irons versions. . .THIS AIN’T IT!It DID play flawlessly on a cranky region-1 DVD player, though. . .if that’s any consolation for having bought a crap movie.

noice
Less than superior acting, but a nice twist from the original. And I was pleasantly surprised when I recognized Sasha Durpfen (AKA Sandra Orlow)
