WAY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED!
SO FAR 5/5 STARS!! Will update after more use.I've been in the photography business for over 12 years, and I had stepped back back in 2020 and sold all my equipment. Well I decided to get back into it again, and of course I've been wanting to get a Canon Nifty Fifty as it was my favorite lens to use for portraits. But as I'm still replacing all the equipment I sold which is a very expensive process (don't recommend selling your equipment when you decide to close your business) haha.. well I saw a video about this brand and I wanted to give this extremely affordable nifty fifty a shot. Initially out of the package I was impressed by the sturdiness, the videos I had watched complained that the body of the lens felt cheap and I didn't experience that at all. It feels like a sturdy lens.I currently have a EOS T7i (I'm a rebel lover what can I say) and I had seen that some had troubles connecting the lens to the body so I went in expecting to have some problems, but was I shocked to see that immediately the body recognized the lens and worked perfect.I snapped a few test shots of my dog and cat to see how it compared to some previous work I did with my canon 50mm and WOW.. The quality just from the RAW shots was beautiful. For the price I would highly recommend this lens. I'll update back after I use it for a engagement shoot I have this weekend and give my truly honest opinion.

Decent Lens for the Price.......
I am a professional photographer and had a failure in one of my high end lenses at the most inopportune time. I sent my "L" lens off to be repaired and needed something to replace it until I could get it back. After a lot of research I just couldn't find anything better for the limited amount of money I could spend. The ratings were good but I just couldn't believe that this would give me the quality I needed. Having no other options I ordered it anyway to fill the need. What a pleasant surprise. After a minor glitch (my fault, explained below) I found this lens will give me crisp clear focus and colors. It is an excellent lens for those who cannot afford the top of the line lenses that will last forever but take forever to pay for. This lens is good for probably a year of continual medium to heavy use and then just throw it away and buy another. It is made of plastic and needs tender loving care to hold up for any amount of time but I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of photos you can get from this. If you have a limited budget and need a lens that will get you those low light photos then buy this. Yopu won't be disappointed. Just be careful on banging it around. Now a little help and the "glitch" I mentioned. When this was delivered I handed the box to an associate and went to a meeting. I got a call that the lens was horrible and the best focus was slightly blurry with a halo around everything. My initial reaction was that "You get what you pay for". Upon my return to the studio I grabbed the lens and put it on a different body and got the same result. It looked like I was shooting through a thin film of Vaseline. Upon closer inspection I found that my associate had removed the protective plastic sheet from the front glass of the lens but not the small one on the back glass. (think of the plastic on the front of a new phone) If you remove both piece of plastic you should get some pretty good photos.

Stop Agonizing and BUY THIS LENS!
This lens is my favorite in my collection and works amazingly well on my Rebel XT. I thank myself repeatedly for purchasing this when I get a shot that just blows my little mind. If you are really agonizing over purchasing this or the real Canon 50mm equivalent lens like I did for months, stop mistreating yourself now. Order this lens ASAP and stop punishing yourself for NOT buying a Canon lens. You're worthy and the first time you see what you captured, in all its detail, your smile will remind you that you did a great job.The quality of photos you will get for a mid-$50 lens will quickly put your mind to rest. Seriously. I could really care less that the lens is "lesser quailty built" than the Canon version. I do not purposely endanger my equipment because I need it and I do not have a backup. This is not a pro lens and I would expect that for $50 there has to be more plastic than metal. If anything, to me, this is a starter lens to evaluate what one can produce with this focal length and evaluate if you want to get the better built one from Canon. When you put this lens on, you probably will be like me and leave it on a majority of the time because it is a great walk-around lens and also delivers awesome portrait shots. The only problem I ever had was one time it would not auto-focus shortly after my purchase. Not sure what happened, but I removed it carefully, slid the switch for manual/auto a few times, re-mounted it and it was fine. It hasn't happened since. Also, it's a prime lens so you will have to make the mental change that there is not a zoom capability in the lens and you must physically get closer to subjects, or move further away. Some people may not understand this at first, or may not be able to physically move. So if you are looking for a zoom built-in, this lens does not offer that capability. Finally, make sure you remove all clear plastic lens covers before you begin to use the lens! The plastic on the internal side was a bit of a hassle to remove with larger fingers in action and I almost did not see it on the glass at first.Hope my words helped you and maybe even persuaded you to get off the fence and just buy it. I am very happy with mine and it's been on my camera almost exclusively for 5 months now.
