After finishing the grade 1 social studies textbook and workbook for her homeschool lessons, my daughter moved on to the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill We Live Together Grade 2 textbook and the accompanying workbook. The 295-page hardback book covers various social studies topics such as community, geography, citizenship, and history. The text is easy enough for my daughter to read on her own but engaging enough to keep her attention and provide adequate information on each topic. The accompanying 72-page workbook is essential for reinforcing the lessons in the textbook and covers vocabulary, writing, and other activities.

We're using this for Homeschool
I'm using this with my 2nd grader in the fall for home schooling. I researched many programs and I really love the simplicity of this book. I love that she can read and understand the entire text and I can guide her and give her projects to go along with it. I found the workbook and a whole project kit with teachers manual on ebay to accompany the text! This is a great program for second grade history. I know allot of home schooling parents are not so fond of using public school text books but if you add your own projects and add to the lessons they can really be a great and inexpensive resource!UPDATE: We're into our year of home schooling and this is my daughters favorite book! She gets so excited to tell everyone what she has learned from it. My five year old loves to sit and listen to her read the stories in the book. I highly recommend getting the workbook. It is simple but it reinforces what the child reads.

Don't waste your money.
Total waste of money. I'm a homeschooler and my child is 6...this was ridiculously and doesn't embark "knowledge"....I ended up not using it. We switched over to using historical bios and the library.

Doesn't get very in depth.
I purchased this book for my homeschooled kindergartener and first grader. It has very basic concepts which was ok for kindergartener but not nearly advanced enough for my first grader. It does contain questions and reviews through out the units. It has pictures and illustrations that can hold your child's attention. I would recommend this for a kindergarten level or a first grade level if you are looking to touch on concepts with out going into depth.

Great for 2nd graders!
I am very happy with this book. It is introducing new words for my new reader. I like the length of the lessons and the lively pictures. Basic information every child should know.

I wanted to buy a textbook having a unit of Community, to supplement my 2nd grade lesson planning. This book has it and covers most information I needed.
