One Well Rooted Cyperus Alternifolius Plants (Umbrella Papyrus, Umbrella Sedge, Umbrella Palm) Plants are in 2.5 x 3.5 inch pot and are about 5 inches tall. The number of shoot will increase over time as new shoots will surface and grow. Cyperus Papyrus, commonly known as Papyrus or Papyrus Sedge is native to Egypt. The aquatic plant grows in full sun, in wet swamps and on lake margins throughout Africa, Madagascar and the Mediterranean countries. Cyperus papyrus growth is very fast. It can grow up to 12 feet high. Each stem is topped by a dense cluster of thin, bright green, thread-like stems around 10 to 30 cm (4 to 10 in) in length. It is a tropical plant that requires high humidity and relatively warm temperatures. The base of the pot should always soak in water. The plant was used in paper-making in Ancient Egypt. Hardiness zone: 9-11 Once rooted, transfer seedlings to shallow water in direct sun. Submerge entire pot slowly and at a slight angle to minimize soil loss. If the weather is not past frost season, create an indoor water spot using a plastic tub. Feed cyperus plants regularly with a fertilizer designed for water plants. Stop fertilizing when moved inside for winter. Prune spent growth regularly to keep dying plant matter out of your water feature. Decaying matter can cause many problems to your mini-ecosystem. Move plants indoors for winter months or cold spells. Plants left in water and full sun will continue to grow year-round. Leaving your plant in low light and kept moist will keep it dormant until next growing season.

Wonderful plant for ponds!
Love the plant. Even though it was small on arrival, it has grown to double the size in less than 2 months! It would have been nice to have growing instructions with the plant, but it's not difficult. I kept mine in the packing pot in a bowl of water until it began to grow, and transplanted it to a slightly larger pot (still in a bowl of water). When it outgrows the next container I figure it will be big enough to place in my koi pond.

Deceptive advertising...
Pictures are of mature plants which looks great but what is sent is a twig. Go to your local nursery and get a real plant.

They arrived in amazing packaging nice and healthy
I purchased these for use at an Egyptian themed VBS. They arrived in amazing packaging nice and healthy. After replanting from their dixie cup shipping containers they are thriving in our "Nile". I am not real sure what to do with them after VBS but they are sure fun to watch grow. They seem to grow over night! Thanks for helping teach kids about Egypt and papyri

Growing great!
Looked just like the small pot pic when I received it. Put it in a fabric pot then placed in a pot and filled the remaining space with rocks and filled to edge of fabric pot with water. I never let the water get too low. Now it has grown 10" taller and has 8 new shoots with nice big umbrellas. Love this plant by my little pond.

From Tiny Shoots Come Great Plants
I was a little surprised at the diminutive size of my little papyrus, but I've had these before and I know this one is well enough rooted that I will be sharing similar sprouts before too long. They are tough, interesting plants that thrive in soggy conditions.

Umbrella Palm
I am quite pleased with the Umbrella Palm. Small but healthy and has doubled in size within 2 weeks in my kitchen window. A good 12-13 inches tall now. Looking forward to getting in the ground in the spring.
