Can you remove legs for benchtop use?

The legs fold up and you can use it directly on a benchtop, no problem.

Does the vise separate from the stand for table top use?

No, if you plan to do that then you would want to purchase the Ultra Gun Vise (110011) and separately the Ultra Gun Vise Stand (1093522)

Question 3

Will this work for sighting in laser and red dots on pistols. . . or is it too big?  I dont have a workbench or vice, so this would cover both aspects

Yes!  Although only for long guns.  Bolt action works super.  Semi auto, works very well.  I’d suggest you get the part that I believe is an option which is the part that can fit inside your magazine holder on the semi.
Plus it’s great to clean any firearm.  I was worried too about buying this.  Very happy I did.  Oh, and I did get the one with ‘legs’ - not certain if you’re considering that.  Without the stand being at ‘waist’ high level - I don’t believe it will help you sight in a long firearm.
I use mine at home for cleaning and to get a very close ‘center’ but if you can take it to a range, it’s a piece of cake to center.  Just need to try your best to keep the rifle from moving post firing.  It will take 3-5 tries to center at 200 yards.  100 yards is much simpler.
At the range I centered at 50 yards first.  Then texted with a 20 mag (556), then 100.  I suggest you bring a white sharpie so you can make a ‘dot’ just in case your rifle slips of center, then you check to make sure you know where the scope dials had you centered.

Last point, it is SO MUCH easier if you have a helper at the range while centering- it’s hard to fire AND at the same time confirm the rifle doesn’t shift a bit as you go through the process.
I’ve used on my semi’s: 556 and 308.  And my 6.5 Creed that is bolt

Question 4

Is this strong enough to install/remove barrel nut on AR?

I have only serviced my AR's on mine, have yet to remove/install a barrel nut but believe it wouldn't be a problem. I have a buddy who's a fully qualified AR Custom Builder, whom of course owns way higher and expensive equipment in his shop but when he saw my Tipton Standing Ultra Vice he was also of the opinion installing/removing barrel nuts should be feasible with this vice. You may already know this but the legs fold up and out of the way, exposing all four L corners with reinforced pieces for bench mounting so for more rigidity in a shop environment you also have that as an option if the long legs produce to much "wiggle" or movement. It probably be a good idea to contact Tipton Direct and ask.
