Perfect fit
I bought this caddy to enable me to make use of a Samsung 860 SSD removed from my old laptop which has now given up the ghost after 14 years. The SSD is a perfect fit and I intend to use it as extra storage for my MacBook Air laptop. I failed to notice the supplied lead is not usb c to usb c but I can use an adapter to connect to the laptop. The caddy appears strong enough for the task ahead and should prove to be good value for money.

Speedy, and performant, small caveats though
PROSThe drive is pretty sleek and well designed. The padding for the drive is very good (may be a little too good as it was a bit tight to install the drive at first)The usb/sata chipset is the ASM 235CM, and is a great performer, supporting USB 3.1 gen 2 connections (10Gbps) though bear in mind SATA III is limited to 6Gbps and further limited by the Drive Speed depending in its type. It also is UASP, which is important for performance with systems/OSs that support it. My system supports and uses UASP with this drive. The crystal mark Screenshot provided (567MBps seq read, 530MBps seq write) is my Samsung EVO 870 2TB drive inside the caddy, using USB 3.1 Gen 2, and compares very well to direct SATA speeds and shows pretty much full saturation of the SATA III interface, with that being the bottleneck. In fact it seems to be slightly faster on seq read/writes verses my EVO 870 4TB connected that I have connected direct to SATA 3 on my motherboard, and slightly slower on random. On USB 3.0 (gen1) 5gbps it gets about 445MBps seq read, and 411MBps seq write, showing the USB3.0 Gen 1 5Gbps interface being the bottleneck, and the speeds being quite respectable for a USB 3.0 interface.Things to be aware of:Only a USB A to USB C cable is provided, and whilst some USB A ports may have GEN 2 (10Gbps) support, many computers (such as mine) only provide 10Gbps via USB C ports, so if I needed to get the most absolute performance from a fast SATA SSD, I had to source my own USB C to C cable. Would have been helpful if a C to C cable was also included. Though for those using traditional HDDs in this, this woudl be a moot point for performance as those will not reach USB 3 speeds anyway, but may provide convenience.Cooling, the case is made of plastic, and there are no vents. Whilst my Samsung SSD is pretty cool, I do have a concern about possible overheading when used with HDD over longer periods of time and activity (shrter times and low activity shoudl be totally fine)For the above I have docked a single starNevertheless is a great product, and at a good price.

Works perfectly
Works perfectly but make sure you have a usb-c to usb -c cable as it did not work at all with the cable that it came with but apart from that good solid item.

Get maximum speed from your SSD drive at a great price
This was one of the few enclosures I could find that supported:1. TRIM - ensures you get maximum life & performance from your SSD2. USAP - increases speed over USB 3.0 connections3. USB 3.1 Gen 2 - combined with USAP means this enclosure has a faster connection than most SSD drives available today need. It supports speeds up to 10Gbps whilst most SSD drives can only get to around 4-6Gbps, which is 500-750 MB/S - confusing I know as SSDs are all compared on MB/s (Megabyes per second) but USB standards are quoted in is Gbps (Gigabit per second) - TIP: if you want to find our the conversion for your SSD speed just google "mb/s to gbps" and you'll get an online conversion tool.I'm getting real world speeds on my Samsung Evo 850 1TB drive connected to an iMac thunderbolt/USB 3.1 port of Sequential write of 456 MB/s and reads of 513 MB/s. The official specs for this drive are 520 MB/s write and 540 MB/s read but from what I understand from reading online reviews is you never get these speeds in real world situations. It's great value for the price as I saw some enclosures that were 2x or 3x the price for the same spec. To make sure you get the best performance from the drive make sure you get a good quality USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable that can support the 10 Gbps speed and if you're using a Mac then you will have to get your hands dirty with some simple Terminal commands to turn on TRIM or download one of the TRIM enabler tools available online. My only one criticism is the drive comes with a USB C to USB A connector but to hook it up to a fast USB C/thunderbolt port on a Mac you need USB C to USB C cable - would be great if they offered a different version with this cable like some of the competing drives, but it still works out good value if you add in the cost of a £10 USB cable.
