OWATROL1 Litre Seasonite New Wood Protection

This product was recommended by the maker of the wood table we bought. It’s a good preservative & protector. Not cheap but effective

I built a pergola from green Douglas fir. I more or less intend on letting it weather naturally. But as some classic April weather descended I started to notice some splitting around the joinery and at the rafter ends. I understand this is the nature of drying wood. Moisture leaves rapidly from outer areas but much slower from deeper within. This creates tension within the wood and leads to splits and cracks. But I perhaps hadn't considered how pronounced this was going to be on my pergola. So I bought some seasonite.I thought a litre should do it as pergolas are simple by nature, not loads of surface area like a fence or something. But I came up annoyingly short.Considering the product is sold as a precursor to help your wood season before using numerous other overpriced Owatrol products, I think it's pretty absurd that you only get a litre for around £25, and can't even treat a whole pergola.It's seems to me like a heavily watered down acrylic sealer, presumably so it washes away in time for you to be sold the next rip off product.Owatrol are selling this idea that to fully protect wood outside you need 3 of their products and 6 months. But considering each of these products cost twice as much as some of the more traditional 1 stop alternatives I think they are taking the piss.
