2nd update, w/video: The perfect coffee mug. Physics always works.
The media could not be loaded. After about 4 years of daily use, I can reiterate that the Burnout is the best coffee mug I've ever seen. I revised my review today to demonstrate that it doesn't leak (please see video). My previous comments follow:The Burnout mug is not good, it is great. The design and construction are bulletproof.I easily adapted to the design differences between this mug and the typical insulated coffee mug. After two years of daily use in harsh conditions, the mug still looks new and doesn’t leak a drop.I am now convinced that this is the best insulated mug produced. My original review follows:The Burnout travel coffee mug is quite good.It relies on the same principle that we can all observe in the evening after a sunny day: a heat sink. ( Or, more accurately, the first law of thermodynamics / the law of conservation of energy).Just as your concrete driveway, patio or a brick wall exposed to the sun all day will radiate heat for some time after sunset, this mug, through the use of materials which efficiently absorb heat, gradually releases the heat over a period of hours, thus keeping the contents of the mug warm. .In order for this mug to perform as intended, you MUST preheat the container (mug) with hot water. If you don’t do this, the mug will still efficiently absorb heat from your coffee, and gradually release it back, but this will result in lukewarm coffee for an extended period of time.As you may note from my photo, I supplement the mugs insulation with a beer cozy, as I am a very slow coffee drinker. This mug works. (obviously, as it relies on scientific principles- the system is as predictable as gravity). The great thing about the mug is that it works AND it is almost identical in size to much more common, but far less effective, travel mugs.I tried a very expensive battery powered mug which was astoundingly large and heavy, but which had a smaller capacity than the Burnout mug.The battery powered unit was not only clumsy, it failed to keep my coffee warm enough to enjoy for more than 2-3 hours. In contrast, the Burnout mug unfailingly keeps my coffee at either the “just right” temperature or very slightly lower temperature for 4+ hours -as long as I properly preheat the mug.For me, this mug has only two negatives. Over many, many years of coffee drinking, I have muscle memory which causes me to slide the closing mechanism toward from the drink side of the mug in order to close the cap. This mug closes very well, never leaked, but is closed by moving the slide away from the opening. I guess this is not a really a design issue, rather it is an issue related to a long ingrained habit I have developed. But, as a result I’ve had a few spills and the accompanying curses. The second issue is the lip of the mug. It is quite sleek. If it protruded about 1/16” of an inch further, I think it would be perfect. As it is presently designed, it is pretty easy to accidentally “lose” a drop or two with each sip if I’m not paying attention. I have not experienced this issue with other travel mugs.Summary: I love the mug, it is built like a locomotive and should last my lifetime, it can’t stop working and is good looking. A Tiny design change would make it the perfect mug, but I would absolutely purchase it again, as it is presently designed.

* Updated Review**Great Idea and Great Customer Service
I originally posted a negative one star review because I found that the lid opening lever is a weakpoint. A simple thermos knock over sitting on the floor caused it to break and now the thermos was not pleasant to use. My review was poor because I sent an email to their customer service and didn’t get a reply. Apparently now two months later, I received a couple follow ups that they did indeed reach out but I never saw the replies. Why I see it now and hadn’t seen them before, I don’t know but I do get a ton of spam emails daily. So maybe it was just luck.Regardless, my wife and I still use the products daily and they work as expected. We love them. Keeps our ginger lemon tea we make daily, hot and comfortable throughout our work day. I definitely recommend them. Because of their efforts to reach out and willingness to help I have updated my review score.**** Original ReviewI bought two units for my wife and I and we use them daily. They work as advertised and love them despite the fact they are heavier than a similar capacity thermos. A few days ago my wife’s thermos was sitting next to the couch as pictured here and our small Yorkie knocked it over, and the red cap broke off. So now the cap won’t stay open without holding it down. I figured I’d just order a new one but on the listing it stated it qualified for a lifetime warranty. I sent an email to help@burnoutmugs.com on April 19 at 1:29pm PST. 3 days later and still no reply. I ordered another lid reluctantly but concerned it could break again simply by the thermos being knocked over on its side. I don’t like knocking companies for bad support because it seems the norm these days but I spent nearly $200 for these less than 2 months ago and a little piece of plastic makes using this product less desirable.

Great concept, but one big flaw
PRO: It does what it claims to do. It cools scalding hot coffee down to a drinkable temperature in a minute or two and then keeps it warm for 90-120 minutes. It looks nice and seems well-made.CON: I HATE the Slide-Seal lid. To be fair, I've never been a big fan of drinking coffee through plastic, but this lid is a disaster. As others have noted, drinking through this lid is extremely awkward. And even though it has been thoroughly washed multiple times, it still imparts a nasty taste. At this point I only use the lid to keep the coffee warm, and remove it to take a drink. Not good.I'm not the only one who is unhappy with the lid, and I see that Burnout is now offering two other lid designs. Maybe I'll try a different lid and write an update. Has anyone else tried them?

Good - at first
I bought this as a birthday present for myself because I like hot coffee when I go to lunch at work. The 1st few months it did keep my coffee hot until lunch. About 5 hours later. When I noticed that after some months the coffee wasn't hot anymore I decided to put hot water in it 1st to warm up the thermos type mug. Needless to say 8 months later my coffee is almost cold when I go to drink it on my lunch break.. Thank God I also take a thermos of coffee with me since I drink a lot of coffee on my lunch break. The thermos does keep the coffee very very hot. This burnout mug was great at 1st but I have no feelings of positivity for it now. And like some of the other reviews say the design of the lid does suck. it feels like it's pushing my top lip and my teeth somewhere else. it's not a natural feel when drinking. Of course I did not like how heavy the mug is but if it's going to keep my coffee hot and at a consistent temperature so that it doesn't taste bitter when I go to drink it hours later then I don't mind. Plz fix the lid especially. I will keep using my thermos. I will keep using this cup because I don't want to spend that much money on another brand to see if it will work.

Nobody Is Complaining About the Technology!!!
Nobody is complaining about the technology… because it works! Cools hot coffee quickly and maintains a drinkable temperature for a long timeframe. For those people complaining about lid design…• When you get your BurnOut Travel Mug, check that it doesn’t leak; if it does, send it back and get another unit until it doesn’t leak! That just leaves the only other cause for leakage: the bargain-basement locking mechanism becomes unlocked through mishandling/jostling/accident/etc., but now you know!• You don’t like the lid, for whatever reason? The lid is functional; and you can get used to it! Trust me, there are worse lids. All said, can they improve the design? Certainly! In my perfect world, I would use the BurnOut technology on my 20 oz. Zojirushi travel mug. Cool my coffee quickly, have a pop-up lid with a superior locking mechanism and comes apart to clean, have a collar handle enabling me to carry my mug with one/two finger(s), etc.For those of you wondering about drinkable temperature… you can influence the drinkable temperature range by “priming” your BurnOut Travel Mug. For example, I prime my BurnOut Travel Mug with 200°F water for about 1 minute prior to pouring my coffee to increase my drinkable temperature range. You can experiment by priming your BurnOut Travel Mug with different temperatures for shorter or longer timeframes to find your preferred drinkable temperature.Bottom line… I bought my BurnOut Travel Mug to be able to drink my French press coffee (190-200°F at pour time) within a reasonable timeframe (within 5 minutes) for approximately 1-2 hours. The technology in my BurnOut Travel Mug accomplishes this function.

Really great coffee travel mug!
I make a hot coffee in this travel mug and it stays hot until I drink it a couple hours later - so very happy with the quality of this product. Highly recommend if require a hot or cold beverage but don't want to drink it straight away - the beverage stays the perfect temp for hours. Really happy :)

Worth every penny!
I worried about buying yet ANOTHER travel mug but have had such difficulty finding one I reallt liked to use. I am a tea drinker, and the main problem I had with most travel mugs is that I would make it in the tea in the morning and it would be burning hot and undrinkable for most of the day. The travel mugs kept the tea too hot. I added ice, I removed the lid, etc but that would cool it down too much. It was a dilemma! But not now... I have owned the Burnout Travel Mug for a month and I LOVE it! Tea is still hot but has cooled quickly to the perfect temperature with their magic "rocket science" and it stays that temperature for the whole day! I find the slide mouth piece easy to drink from, though it does leak a little from that slide mechanism if it is knocked over. I would like to try the flip top that they offer on their website but they don't ship to Canada so I am waiting to see it on Amazon. The mug is well made, easy to hold and easy to clean. If I lost this travel mug tomorrow I would order myself another immediately. Worth every penny. My only wish is that they made it in white like the mugs they have on their website.

Disappointed
I bought this as a gift for my husband. Based on the reviews and the claims the manufacturers make, I thought I was paying premium for a great quality product. But, in reality, it was utterly disappointing. My husband ended up burning his tongue as the temperature control aspect they claim, did not work at all. Additionally, the coffee from this cup tested terrible. All that one can taste is the plastic. It does not live up to the claims they make 'No more "lip dance," burned mouth or reheating your coffee. '. Feels like I got ripped off by paying $100+ for a basic thermos. Will not recommend it.
