It was worth the wait!
It's The Cure's new album - after 16 years! For me also, a return to Cure top form! Fans should not be disappointed and newbies will find delightful, deep and dark moods and sounds reflecting life, love, loss and the human journey. While I'm not keen on Alone (it just doesn't do it for me - not a patch on openers Plainsong or Open, or the earlier ones imho), all the other songs I love and have had on repeat, loud with earbuds. It gets better with more playing too. I'd heard a lot of the new songs live already, but now in studio versions you can hear more of what's behind them, and the richness of them. I like the songs more now, and can go back to the live shows with a greater appreciation.I Can Never Say Goodbye is a new Cure classic, a beautiful and emotional song, musically and lyrically, on the death of Robert's big brother. He makes us feel it too. Endsong is bleak and powerful. The surging vocal chorus of All I Ever Am is energising and passionate, it gives me goosebumps. A Fragile Thing I think works better on the album - both more power and space in it. Drone:Nodrone rocks out Cure style and adds some pace to the album, without dropping the overall mood.I'm listening a few times a day and am looking forward to listening to this Cure album many, many times over the years. Thanks Robert and the lads!

Songs of a Lost World: The Cure’s Haunting Ode to Love, Loss, and the Passage of Time
The Cure's new album "Songs of a Lost World" is an emotionally profound masterpiece, exploring themes of loss, aging, and introspection. True to the band’s legacy of expressive melancholy, this album feels like a requiem for lost youth and love, resonating with fans who have journeyed with Robert Smith’s iconic voice through decades. Each track unfurls with haunting depth, transforming personal sorrow into universal elegies that speak to the inevitability of time. This album, imbued with the signature gloom and dreaminess of The Cure, delves deeply into the beauty and fragility of life. Songs build in layers, with echoing guitars, somber synths, and haunting lyrics, painting a sonic landscape that both consoles and confronts listeners with the finality of loss. Smith's voice, still poignant and powerful, carries a maturity and vulnerability that brings an added weight to the themes of aging and loss. Every song feels like a journey, capturing a spectrum of emotions from nostalgia to grief, and reminding listeners of the transient nature of life. The album’s arrangements—sweeping, slow, and deliberate—give each song a sense of grandeur, almost as though each is a standalone epic. Songs of a Lost World doesn’t shy away from sorrow but instead embraces it, achieving an atmosphere that feels like a cathartic farewell, perhaps marking the end of an era for the band as well. While every song stands out in its own right, the collective effect is a journey through life’s more sorrowful milestones, blending haunting melodies and poetic lyrics with the unmistakable sounds of The Cure. For longtime fans, the album serves as a reminder of the band's unparalleled ability to turn despair into something beautiful and timeless. It’s a somber but fitting reflection of lives lived, loves lost, and memories held close, and it stands as one of The Cure’s most heartfelt and moving works.Have your tissues ready!

The cure: it was so worth the wait!
Well as my title suggests it was indeed worth the wait, albeit I didn't want to wait that long! Robert and the boys are absolutely on top form. I'm so impressed by the quality of these songs. If you are a fan of Disintegration (we all are I assume) you will have a lot to love here. I just watched the Cure on BBC lounge (iPlayer in UK) promoting the album and RS (and band) is still just so bloody good, it warms the heart. There is no bad song or "filler" on the album, totally recommend

Cured my 16 year itch!!
A perfect album from start to finish. Deep and emotional, great production and Robert’s voice sounding as good as ever! My first listen was the Dolby Atmos mix from the deluxe cd set .. it’s so spacious and immersive. The live streamed gig at The Troxy on album launch day just proves what an amazing live band they are. They started by playing the new album in its entirety in the 31 song 3 hour set. Sublime!!

The Instrumental CD a rare offering some bands can’t offer.
The Cure : Are rare band that aren’t just about being vocal. Equal measure of the instrumental CD ambience. That smoulders slowly and is warming the more you listen them over. Shows maturity and wisdom to make this album when they did. Well done The Cure. May they endeavour for eternity. 🎵🎶.

Five Stars For The Music, Zero Stars For The Stereo Mastering
Musically, for me this is the best record The Cure have made since Bloodflowers. But let's move on to the mastering. The stereo mix is really hard to listen to. A quick check of the 24/96 PCM stereo on the Blu Ray confirms that it's been brickwalled, everything is loud loud LOUD.Thankfully the Atmos mix hasn't suffered from the same fate. If you want to hear what the stereo mix could have sounded like, downscale the Atmos mix to stereo. It's a much nicer listen.

A genuine Pleasure
Its been a long wait but I admit I'm not disappointed. The hype over the past few weeks has been interesting and seeing a lot of archive material being shown has been a real treat.Enjoy ...

The Cure all'ennesima potenza
