Worked right away, Grandpa happy!
I bought this phone for my dad who is 85 and hard of hearing. He called it life-changing. Not only is the voice to text fast and accurate, but it’s very easy to set up. I sent it to his house and was able to help him with the set up over FaceTime. He has a fast Internet connection and a VoIP phone line through the Internet provider. Works great and simple to set up to the Wi-Fi and a standard phone Jack splitter to his telephone modem so he can also keep his other phone from my momHe is able to talk to his doctors and he loves to screen the calls by looking at the text before he answers it (if he ever does). My only issue is with the microphone for the speakerphone. It doesn’t pick up his voice very well, but if he uses the handset, it sounds crystal clearHighly recommend

A lot of bang for the buck
Mechanically, this is a robust piece of hardware and functionally, it works very well indeed. But the thing that impressed me most was the manual. Clear graphics and large text, almost as if they understood that the majority of their customer base was likely to be elderly and potentially myopic. It was extremely well organized and clearly written, unlike so many user guides written by those to whom English is a second language. Ah, I see the company is located in Madison Wisconsin, mid westerners, my people.

Excellent phone for hearing impaired seniors!
Terrific phone for hearing impaired seniors. I was able set up this phone easily with VOIP at my mom’s assisted living. Programmed essential numbers for her easily. It is easy for her to operate. I especially like that there are push buttons in addition to the touch screen as at 94 she is more comfortable with the push button but I could use the touch screen to get everything set up for her quickly.

A Real Need For The Hearing Impaired:
I purchased 2 CapTel telephones from Amazon, they are caption corded phones.A land line phone and fast Internet connection are required. It can either work with Ethernet or WI-FI, the phone uses the Internet connection to complete the communication and conversion from voice to text for the captioning. It works very well without any added services from the phone service, it uses the phone line and your old telephone number plus the Internet to set it all in motion. Once you get it set up and registered with the FCC, the service is activated and provided to us the hard of hearing, 24/7 by our US Government thru the use of the Internet. FCC registration is done on the phone touch screen after your WI-FI or Ethernet Internet connection has been established. Fine tuning can be done in the settings mode.I am 86 years old, all of todays new technology is nothing short of amazing.

Poor customer service
I called Captel to ask if the phone worked with wifi and was assured it did. I called twice to confirm before I bought it. After multiple calls to Captel tech support, they told us it would not work through wifi and we had to have a landline installed. It does not work if you only have wifi. We purchased the product because we did not want to install a land line. Also, if you buy through Amazon you only get a 30 day warranty. If you buy directly from Captel, you get a 90 day warranty. I found the whole customer service experience misleading and would not recommend this company or its products.

WORKS BUT QUIRKY
For an elderly parent it is needed, the volume is definitely louder on the handset as well as the speaker. The text display overall is decent but does throw some weird words in the transcripts occasionally. The bad is it will get disconnected and not work, then you have to go thru a setup config again which is a hassle. I've nearly sent it back twice already but hold out since it is helping somewhat.
