This is a value for money set of 5 different calligraphy nibs. Just remember that you need to purchase the dip in separately. Luckily I had a pot of ink from another pack from this brand. It is a little messy to change nibs but that’s to be expected. I think it’s good quality set that works well for fancy lettering.

For the quality on offer, this pen is astonishingly cheap. Yes it's a simple, pure, classic design with no frills, but it's all about the quality, with a superb selection of nibs in a beautiful, classical little case which is a delight.Made in Britain and with plastic-free, simple-to-recycle packaging, this feels great in the hand is an honest set without silly frills - just pure quality and elegance for the serious calligrapher.

This is a calligraphy pen by MANUSCRIPT, which comes with four spare nibs and a little keepsake tin. For some reason I’d anticipated there being ink included but there isn’t, so you’ll need your own ink to use with the pen. There are no example texts included but there’s plenty online for beginners like me in the way of tips and tutorials.The little tin is nicely designed with a vintage feel, which I really like, and the nibs are well made. The pen is very basic, with a plain brown appearance and rounded barrel, but it seems robust and it’s comfortable enough to hold. I can’t say I like the appearance of the pen itself but if you just want a more basic option for learning and practising calligraphy, it’s a good option and the nibs will keep you going for a while.

The nibs wouldn't really stay in the pen for me, I am not sure if that is a build error or my packet had the wrong handle for the nibs received. I have worked with many similar calligraphy sets and this was rarely a problem for me, and where I thought maybe me sitting at the product for 30 minutes trying to get the nibs to stay in was still my problem for not being bright, my older brother too could not get the nib in to stay without changing anything about the nib or pen. I deducted 2 stars solely or this as it is both frustrating to work with but as someone who has very little feeling in the hands it is quite hard to keep putting the nibs back into the pen and makes it a very unenjoyable experience.The tin the nibs came in was lovely, it was very pretty, but it is a shame that the nibs were so hard to work with. They wrote pretty nicely all things considered so I do not want to take off more than 2 stars as potentially there was just a mix-up with the set I received.

Writing with a dip pen is a completely different feeling and media to drawing with fine liners or felt tips. You have to plan , be careful of dripping ink, wait for it to dry and while you are learning understand mistakes and putting your hand in it.The pen and nib are good, the extra nibs nd tin to keep them in make this good value compared to art shop prices. Also there's a website with helpful tips and videos that you can go to.

Needs ink in a bottle for dipping. Easy to swap out the nibs although you will get ink on your fingers no matter how well you clean the nibs. A good set for someone wanting to dabble in calligraphy or fancy writing. Tin for the storing the nibs in is noisy as it's all metal but that's only when it's being moved.

I am a beginner to the art of calligraphy and recently tried out a Winsor & Newton dip set plus a couple of sizes of the Pilot Parallel pens (which are easy to use as they have cartridges).I had been disappointed with the W & N set - it constantly required dipping (six times for the sentence in the photo), often either with way too much ink or not writing at all (bear in mind I am a beginner). I thought all dip pens would be that horrible to use unless you got skilled.However, this dip pen is amazing! Although I got too much ink for the start of my sentence, the ink lasted for the whole sentence without needing re-dipping, it flowed smoothly and felt beautiful whilst I was writing. I can see that when I become more skilled I will really be able to write well with this pen.As a plus, you get the gorgeous retro tin to keep the nibs in. The only bad point is the holder. It's obviously cheap and the metal prongs which hold the nib have a tendency to move and bend, causing the nib to become loose. I did buy a Tachikawa Comic Pen Nib Holder, which seems excellent, but these nibs are too thin for it and drop out - UPDATE: My husband very slightly flattened the holder parts of the nibs for me and now they stay firmly in the Tachikawa.
