Device is working hard.....
We live in the middle of a livestock farm and have a bad fly problem, especially in the spring/summer. Since this unit arrived (bulbs intact, despite being delayed and swapping vans) it's been happily zapping flies and small insects on the top of our kitchen units. We also have ladybirds and a satisfying range of moths but the gadget doesn't seem to attract the LDBs and we turn it off at night, so all well there. As others say, the device is noisy; the first time it went off, within seconds of being switched on, both the humans jumped about a foot in the air and the dog vanished. But, after only 2 days, we've got used to it to the extent that we like to hear the device at work - and it's working hard! The dog has stopped caring, although I turn the lamp off when it's dog meal times. It's brilliant at small-to-medium flies and insects, we empty the tray every day. Whilst the unit often ejects smaller cadavers when they explode, bigger flies - meaty bluebottle size - sometimes survive the first shock and, after a few minutes comatose, start a drunken wandering about; however they nearly always try to launch again and get zapped a second time - then it's curtains.Verdict: very, very, happy with the device. If you have a constant big fly problem I'd suggest a more powerful unit but this one is really good. 5 stars.Update after a couple of weeks: It's still going at it, hard, as I type this! But be prepared to clean the device every day if it's been busy, as it has in this hot weather (I imagine much more so than in usual domestic use as we are on a farm, so don't let this update put you off). Insect remains do get trapped, especially between the electrodes and the bulbs and the tray / bottom of the device gets quite full. A large artists size paintbrush or a very small domestic paintbrush - used DRY! - works well for cleaning and I use a wooden skewer to gently dislodge any trapped insect bodies, having given the unit a minute to wind down after being turned off. I've put the unit on a big sheet of newspaper because insect body parts sometimes get ejected a fair way from the mesh screen (well outside the tray catchment and, be warned, sometimes down onto the counter; our zapper is on top of our kitchen cabinets). Still a fab product....

Very effective
This is great for the price. It has 2 powerful blue lights which attract the pests towards it. It includes a chain for wall hanging, or can stand freely which mine does. There is a pest collection tray which slides on at the bottom of the device and is easy to slide in and out. However the tray does not fix to the device, it just sits loosely at the bottom so it could move if the device is not kept still. It does make quite a loud noise when it kills a pest, but I don’t mind that. Overall, I’m really pleased with it and it does the required job to perfection. Would definitely recommend.

Does the job - loudly
I bought one of these back in the Spring to put on a shadowy countertop in the corner of our kitchen. We seem to get a lot of fruit flies that gather in this area. Not anymore. This little beauty sorts them all out.I was thankful for the buyer reviews for this product because it certainly influenced my purchasing decision. We no longer have problems with flies. As for comments about the lead being too short, I am not so sure. I have mine on a worktop and it plugs into the wall. There's more lead on this product than the average electrical appliance, so unless you want to hang it from the ceiling and plug it in at floor level, then yes it could come up as too short. However, I like the convenience of having it at counter height. This means I can put it away when it's no longer required. That said, I've not put it away for a long time. I just switch it on in the morning and turn it off when all the flies have gone.A word on comments about the noise it makes when a fly gets drawn in and hits the electric fence. It makes a similar sound to an old-fashioned cap gun going off. just not as loud. Think of it as more of a loud Christmas cracker. At first, you might think it's too noisy, and it certainly makes one jump when not expecting it to go off. Even the dog was flinching at it. You simply get used to it after a short while. The noise though is a small price to pay for fly-free living. Now, when it goes off, my wife gives me a wry smile as if to say "another one bites the dust."On the downside, I can't find a link to buy some spare bulbs. That said, replacing the bulbs seems to be more than a bit of a faff than it's worth given the price of this unit. Bulbs will set you back about 50% of the cost of a replacement unit. If I can find replacements when I need them I will certainly do so, but if not, I would not let that get in the way of buying another complete unit.Open the box. Put it where you need it. Plug it in. Bye-bye flies.Provided you are not a noise-sensitive person I would thoroughly recommend this product.Update: A few people are still buying this product and suggesting it doesn't work and are returning thier item. This is most probably because they have yet to find the optimum position for the best results. I am also thinking that they might be simply switching it on and expecting it to instantly attract and kill flies. This is what I did initially. When I realised it wasn't going off very much even though there were tons of flies about - I moved it. After a while I finally found the best spot for it in my room. I use it in the kitchen and have it positioned in an area where we have previously been plauged by fruit flies. I've not seen one since. Another tip is to turn it on as early as possible and let it run until dusk. I have a dog and I like fresh air so my backdoor is often open all day. This brings flies into the kitchen, but the unit will eventually deal with the flies throughout the day. I then switch it off when it gets dark. While the unit comes with a chain to hang it someplace, I would not hang mine above the backdoor or some other place. I position mine at a 30 degree angle on the countertop so that flies are attracted to the black lights on both sides. If you want a fly free existence but are not thinking that this will clear a room in minutes, this is for you. If you want the latter then there's always a can of Raid. Hope you find this update helpful.
