Saved a hummingbird
This food saved a baby hummingbird that my mom found. He started getting lethargic and a little sad on just sugar water, so we tried this. It perked him up and worked very well. He never was able to fly as his wings were crooked / broken :(

Rehabilitating orphaned baby hummer
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE: I’ve gotten a few messages about this product and how to care for a wild baby hummer, so if anyone needs help, please message me on Instagram which is linked my my Amazon bio❤️.There aren’t many hummer rescues out there, but I feel like I know a lot about taking care of one (I’m not a professional however just a lot of real experience taking care of one), so if that’s you and you feel overwhelmed, but your heart wants to care for a hummer, BUY THIS PRODUCT and send me a message on Instagram❤️..I found an orphaned baby hummingbird and did a ton of research on how to care for them. There wasn't hardly ANY info about it, other than feeding them sugar nectar not for longer than 24-72 hours. To which then, you must find a QUALIFIED RESCUE for them. Well, I live in Los Angeles and there are zero here. So, I decided to do it myself. He's been doing very well so far. The dropper bottle to the right in the photo is the protein nectar, and the one to the left is sugar nectar. I'm documenting all of this, as to hopefully create some sort of video that can be referrered to for people in similar situations. I have not found ANY information nor videos longer than a paragraph or longer than 3 minutes regarding caring for hummers. I understand it is illegal, but my full intent is to rehabilitate him so he can then fly with his fellows on migration. This has been somewhat of an expensive journey, but gratifying non the less. Wish us luck for success!UPDATE 3 YEARS LATER 2020! (Got time cus quarantine😉):I made a short video and posted it with my journey of rehabbing little Joey. It still makes me cry to this day. I look back on this short moment in history and it has forever changed me as a person. It only lasted 2 1/2 months, but gosh was it special. A few tips: He ate every HOUR! Luckily with my roommate who was home when I was working in the evening-Joey was on a perfect feeding schedule. If you don’t feed them every hour to hour and a half, they WILL die. It is SO important to have them on a feeding schedule. He would always CHIRP HARP really loud. If i didn’t need the call within 30 seconds, he got LOUDER and LOUDER😂. This product will go BAD within a 4 hour window-make sure to make it fresh every 6 hours or so. Hummers usually don’t eat at nighttime, but they wake up very early (around 5am chirping loud so make sure to have some prepped in the fridge the night before). I had a few “incidents” with him-so my caution to you is to make sure they stay inclosed while unsupervised. Hummers are STRONG azz little birbbies though. I had to teach him how to fly too-which was SO AMAZING. Looking back on it, I would have cleared the room out first before having him fly off my finger-luckily nothing serious happened. Joey slept upsidown at night too🤣Fast foward a few weeks from flying, one day he was just “ready to leave” which you can see towards the end of the video of him flying around and not wanting to be touched. I could tell this because he no longer wanted to be close to me and kept flying around the windows. That day I let him go outside. The very last part of the video is him in the tree right outside being super curious. About 15 minutes after that, he went and joined his other hummers in the sky. I never saw him again, but he forever touched my heart. I hope he went on to migrate and have lots of other little Joeys. One of the coolest experiences of my life. I hope I’ve helped anyone who has stumbled upon an orphan looking for answers. YOU CAN DO IT! Just stick to what I had to learn the hard way, and you should be okay. At the time I couldn’t find any, so I hope my experience will help at least someone. Good luck xoxo 💋

product is a hard clump
I am sure the product, when properly packaged, is as advertised. But obviously packaged in damp conditions. Just a hard clump. Dug it out with a knife and question the quality of product.$40 in the trash!!!!

It must not taste great
My winter hummingbird avoided the feeder like the plague.

Saved a hummer!
I had a ruby-throat female wintering over in my yard this year for some reason. This kept her healthy through some really bad weather and freezes. She readily accepted it and it has all the nutrients she needs. Great stuff!

Supported Two Families
The nest was near our front door and she laid a clutch of two eggs. Cold winter weather made natural food supply very scarce. I found this product on a blog which said they used it at the San Diego Zoo. It did the trick. Mama Hummer is now feeding the second clutch. Sadly the second had only one of the two eggs hatch. This product is easy to prepare and is highly perishable. You have to change it before it goes foul.I recommend this product to my family and friends.

Expensive but essential
Fledgling hummers could live for awhile with typical sugar water solution but it does not contain the essential nutrients and electrolytes that NEKTAR contains. It’s a must.

Hummingbird doesn't like it. Updated: little birdy now likes it!
UPDATED: After 2 months, the little hummingbird I'm rehabbing is doing pretty well. She has taken a liking to the Nekton Nektar-Plus diet and is getting stronger. Unfortunately, she injured her left wing when she flew into my glass paned office window. I have learned to add just a tad of sugar water to the Nektar mis and it works well. So, I'm updating this review and changing it to 4 stars. Also, I'm reordering another jar.ORIGINAL REVIEW: The hummingbird I have rescued does not like this food. I'm glad I bought only a small jar of it.
