It's easy to misalign the ribbon cable, but once you get it right everything works perfectly.
This seems perfectly functional, but it can be hard to get the ribbon cable connected correctly. You'll need to watch some YouTube videos to learn the techniques for opening your iPod's case and dealing with the tiny clamps that hold the ribbon cables in place.I deducted a single star for the cable connector. It could be more precise. Otherwise, this is a stellar conversion board, and I'm very happy with it.If you have trouble getting it to work, disconnect the cable and carefully reconnect it. You'll eventually get the cable inserted just far enough and not skewed.I also recommend insulating the board by carefully wrapping the board with electrical tape after you've installed the Compact Flash card. Use one layer only, with no wrinkles. Otherwise, you may have trouble closing the case. The tape provides electrical insulation and helps prevent rattles. If you get a "battery very low" warning or see the frowning iPod icon, try disconnecting and reconnecting the hard disk cable and the battery cable. Keep working with it at times when your hands are steady and you're calm. This requires fine motor skills.Don't close the iPod's case until you're sure it's working correctly. You can plug in all the cables and plug the 30-pin connector cable between your iPod and your computer with the iPod's case open. You'll use iTunes to reset your iPod after the adapter is installed. When you're sure it's working correctly, close the case carefully. Be sure the adapter is below the battery and not overlapping it as the case closes. When you finally get it done, it's a wonderful transformation for your beloved old iPod, and well worth the effort. All the foibles, delays, and static of the old mechanical hard drive are gone, leaving you with smooth, clean music with no delays and better impact resistance.

Perfect swap. I went to my local BatteryPlus store ...
Bought this item and other items needed to upgrade my iPod Classic 4th Gen from 80GB to 128GB. Perfect swap. I went to my local BatteryPlus store for the installation. Have a new upgraded iPod. Thank you. Happy customer.

Look Elsewhere
I've tried using it in a couple different ipods now and it just doesn't work. When it does work it's awesome but unfortunately you get what you pay for. I would not recommend it.

Poor build quality.
This product was defective out of the bag. There are some tiny surface mount capacitors and resistors on the board, and one of them just fell off as we took it out of the bag. The product never worked when plugged into our iPod. We’re suspecting the poor soldering connections on the surface mount components.
