JHS Pedals Moonshine Overdrive Pedal

Nice pedal sounds awesome, but there could be some quality control issues. I got mine new and was super stoked. I mean an awesome overdrive is something everyone needs. It's expensive, but they are an upper end pedal, so you get what you pay for.... sorta. I have a problem with mine out of the box were at times it would work, then it wouldn't. This thing is brand new and I was a little ticked. I called JHS Customer Service and they were great to work with, but of course I would need to send it in. Total BS for a new pedal that I have to send it in. Well I've got some background in Electronics, and I can solder pretty decent, so I pulled the cover and got my USB Microscope out. What I found was two solder joints that didn't have any solder on the wire to the post on the foot switch. So I fixed it. Support said that it wouldn't void my warranty, and I told them what I found and did to repair it. This is why I have them 4 stars. Had they tried to jerk me around, it would have been 3, had it worked out of the box, it would be 5.

I have a Sweet Tea and wanted a pedal like the 808 side. JHS has discontinued the 808 and replaced it with the Moonshine. I like it better. Just a bit more raw in the midrange. Tons of boost, and makes a great clean mid-boost w/ the volume up and gain down (or a flat boost w/ the switch down). Killer in front of my 50 watt Plexi to send it into a singing lead machine.

It sounds amazing. All of the sound quality that I was looking for plus more. This really exceeded my expectations. There is plenty of overdrive capability as well as versatility packed in this pedal. Couldn't be happier with it. Thank you JHS.

UPDATE: June 2016So, Ive been using this pedal like crazy, and absolutely love it. I have had it for well over a year and have used it in many many different circumstances. I love it. I can lighten things up and make it almost clean, just to boost the signal and put a little "hair" on it, or it will put forth a wall of sound. I love stacking it with a Morning Glory in front, and man, it's thick and full without being muddy. I play a Strat with Lollar "Dirty Blondes" pickups, and it really loves this pedal. So does my Les Paul. It's a great pedal, and I would not part with it. If you are on the fence, buy it. It's a great OD, and plays well with all kinds of music and all kinds of guitars.This is a great great pedal. Instantly this pedal was dialed in. I've had virtually every main boutique overdrive, and this is so warm, and creamy, and perfect on my board that I can't believe it took me five or six months to pull the trigger on it. I wish I would've had it months ago. But, better late than never.This is one OD pedal that sounds great in a YouTube review, you can read about it here and 100 other places, but an online review really can't do this pedal justice. I've been wanting one for six months. Finally ordered one of the hand painted versions and really was shocked at how much better (warm, clear, full, smooooooooth, clean and chime-y when dialed back, but wonderful and full when turned up) it sounded live than on the 50 videos I've watched over and over. I'm playing a Strat with Lollar Dirty Blonde pickups so this tone is all single coil, yet never never sounds thin. Very responsive too-- cleans up perfectly with the volume knob. When soloing the notes stay clear, and goes from rock to blues and worship music with more ease and flexibility than any of the dozen ODs I've played and owned: Fulldrive 2, OCD, Morning Glory, Sick As, JHS Double Barrel, Charlie Brown,Tubescreamer, among so many others. All of these are great pedals and I still use them and love their tone but the Moonshine just rises above. It runs at 18v that it converts internally from standard 9v and man, that makes a difference. It's great, and all these are very fine boxes. It's my favorite, but all these are great. But, this one is just incredibly easy to dial in and get dialed in straight out of the box, immediately. It's exactly what I was looking for, and there's a reason for all of the great reviews all over the Internet.PS- Stacked with a Sick As or Morning Glory, and preceded by a JHS Pulp n Peel, it's nirvana.Psps- if you are involved in worship ministry playing electric guitar, you really owe it to yourself and to your church to have one of these nearby on your board. It really is that special.

Have it. Love it. Miss it. Wish I was playing it right now but I'm away from home and sadly I can't. But enough about me. If you don't have this pedal yet stop reading reviews and buy it . You won't regret
