My son received this chess set for Christmas two years ago. The quality is amazing! It has traveled with us, and survived a 9 year old boy without a scratch. The beautiful pieces fit perfectly in the foam inserts and everything stays where it should when the game is put away. We absolutely love it!The one thing the pieces couldn't hold up to was our English Bulldog. I guess he wanted to play too, and ate one of the bishops. I emailed the company to ask about buying replacement pieces and was told although they don't yet sell replacement pieces, the customer service rep would check with the warehouse. Very quickly she got back to me and said the warehouse doesn't have any, but that she would check with the manufacturer. Within a few days, I got another email saying that they would be shipping me a replacement piece from Europe, at no cost to me, and then she apologized for the amount of time it would take to get here. I'm BEYOND IMPRESSED at this company's customer service. They very easily could have ended the conversation at we don't sell replacement pieces. I feel like the customer service rep went out of her way to ensure we got what we needed. I would have been happy to pay for a replacement piece as well as waiting as long as needed for it to get here. They removed all the stress of finding the piece. My son is happy, I'm happy, and they also have a customer for life. I've told all the parents in my son's chess club about this company and I will be telling everyone I know that I recommend buying a chess set from them. 10 out of 10, would HIGHLY recommend!

It's a nice set for the price. There is room for improvement of course but not at this price point. Some things that could be improved:-Sanded at a higher grit for a smoother finish-Better quality finish with more coats-More detail in the pieces. The knight in particular looks cheap.-Some of the pieces often fall out of their holders. Not sure how to fix that though. Maybe a more resilient sponge.Also, personally, I have come to find the magnetic aspect kind of annoying in gameplay.

Beautiful chess set. Quality workmanship. Well worth the money. But…… pieces are a little too large for the board. You can actually lose sight of a piece while playing. If you can get acclimated to it, there’s a definite HOME TEAM advantage.

Poorly warnished, board surface bulging slightly. Somewhat disappointing quality for 60 bucks. Figures very good quality . All in all , mediocre board not a showpeace....

I got the product with defect, but the seller was proactive to resolve the issue once it is identified. I can feel their commitment on providing quality service and product. The incident did give me an unpleasant experience in first place due to product quality, but their swift response and attitude did restore my confidence to the seller. So at the end, I would rate 5 star as it is a trustworthy seller.

We have been using it daily. The pieces have magnets and a nice weight to it.

I have been looking for a great chessboard with a good price.I finally found it.- The pieces are solid wood. They have good weight and they look great.- The magnet on the pieces are strong enough to keep them on the board and they do not fall off. Great for road trip.- Magnet is soft enough to be able to move them without scratching the board.- The holding case is a snug fit for the pieces. It is semi rigid foam to hold and protect the pieces.I recommend strongly.

Very well made. We bought it for our 7 year old who loves chess. It's a great set, beautiful and we are happy with the purchase.

This is a wonderful set. I bought it for our family after reading reviews of the *many* sets available at this price point. I was looking for something classic looking/feeling, not too expensive, yet well-built and lasting. I was not disappointed. It's a well crafted board and great pieces, good size for enjoying on a table with family (even a two-on-one session). The pieces are a nice size and the magnets make it so that you won't be accidentally knocking pieces over, no matter where you lie on the manual dexterity curve (Read: clumsy). Here's my quick pros and cons list.Pros (many of these are confirmed by other reviewers, but they're worth emphasizing):- Magnets are really satisfying; pieces give a satisfying sound when you place them, and the strength of the hold is just right in my opinion.- The foam piece caddy in the underside fits the pieces very snuggly, and the extra queen is a welcome addition.- The board and piece craftsmanship is very good. The wood pieces have a good coating of lacquer on them and are very resistant to damage. We've dropped several pieces already from many heights, and not a ding or scratch on them. Great for families.Areas for improvement (Note: I'm being exceedingly critical here, though I think it's always worthwhile knowing where a product can be improved, especially if it's a smaller company. From their website, it looks like it might be family-run, so incremental improvements to a product can only help in a competitive market!)- The 2 little gold clasps that keep the board closed stick, while pretty, stick out clumsily when the board is open on white's side. A more subtle clasp or other mechanism could be a nice "fit and finish" upgrade.- The grid lettering looks like it uses a stencil to outline the letters and numbers, but then the inside is hand-painted. Perhaps it's for a sort of "charm" effect, though it is noticeable when compared to the overall aesthetic. A stencil for both the outline and fill might give a cleaner finish.Overall, I highly recommend. The set is pretty, practical, and very playable. Exactly what I was looking for.

We deliberated for way too long over which folding board set to buy for our son’s 9th birthday, and did not regret getting the more expensive option. His cousin has one of the $40-range sets, and the quality of this one is definitely much better— everything lines up nicely, the pieces and board feel substantial, the magnetic feature works really well. Also it comes in a gorgeous box for gifting— I couldn’t throw it out!

The chess set itself is excellent overall. It is a gift for my 16 year old son. He is really into chess and plays at school and against internaional competitors on the computer( what an amzing world we live in!). I feel the look of the board is classy and elegant. The pieces are sturdy. The board is magnetic which is a plus. The latches that close the board are strudy. However we had to order this set THREE different times because the first three had flaws. Once there was a deep scratch on the board. The second board had a small wooden chunk missing from the board. I beleive these were boards that were used then returned. The third time the board and pieces were intact but the box clearly had been opened and it was not "crisp" new.We decided to keep the third one since we liked the board the most compared to ther models seen on Amazon. To be fair to Amazon they took back the returns and refunded the money promptly.
