Story Op 1

I have no words to express the beauty of this CD. Jonghyun was and is an Angel. I’m beyond words and cry listening to this whole CD. It’s got so much emotion and love behind it. I love the packaging and drawings. I love the CD. Rest In Paradise Jonghyun. Beautiful Work. You did great.

The main difference between Jonghyun's Base and She Is albums compared to the Story Op. collection, is that while there's an element of performance in his main releases, the Story Ops take a step back and strip things down until we're left with Jonghyun's artistry at its purest and most personal. Since the tragedy of last December, I've vowed to catch up and collect Jonghyun's physical albums, and now I've got round to Story Op. 1. The simplistic approach to this album can be seen just by looking at it - it's reasonably thin and the cover art and design is very minimal (although the illustrations are superb!). On the disc, you'll find nine tracks:1) End Of A Day - I wish we could have ballads as title tracks more often, just so gems like End Of A Day could reach a wider audience. With just a piano and Jonghyun's voice, you've got something beautiful. The way the lyrics speak of returning home to someone or something you love at the end of a long, stressful day are instantly relatable and up for a variety of interpretations.2) U & I - A gentle R&B feel makes U & I one of my favourite songs from this album. It's hard not to be smiling listening to this song - Jonghyun gives a lovely vocal performance and I really love the backing music on this one.3) Like You - Similar to U & I, Like You has a familiar R&B sound to it, though it moves at a slightly faster pace. It's very easy on the ear and immensely enjoyable.4) Diphylleia Grayi (Skeleton Flower) - Probably one of the quietest and most heartbreaking of the many ballads Jonghyun has released. His voice is gentle, emotional and blends seamlessly with the accompanying piano and string instruments. This isn't a song that needs to catch fire in order to enjoy it - it's just pure wonderful throughout.5) Happy Birthday - Since I first heard it, I've had a bit of a silly tradition to always try and listen to this song on my birthday. It moves at another gentle pace, and feels really sweet.6) I'm Sorry - In light of what happened in December, this song has the potential to break me. Reading the lyrics, it almost sounds like Jonghyun thought he'd let us down, and it feels horrible to think he may have left us still thinking like that.7) 02:34 - Picking the mood back up, 02:34 makes a return to a more upbeat song, and I really like this one. It again has an R&B sound to it, but Jonghyun manages to mix in other stuff too, including a brief moment where he almost seems to break out into rap.8) Fine - Despite all the beautiful, wonderful ballads on this album, for some reason Fine has always been my favourite track. It has a bit of a cheeky feel to it especially in the lyrics, and there's something about the chorus that just seems to swing so well to me.9) Maybe Tomorrow - It's called Maybe Tomorrow, with lyrics that sound a lot to me like they're on about procrastination - I can definitely relate to this song. It's a nice way of finishing the album, and given that I'm terrible for procrastinating, I can really get onboard with this song.Like I've said, both this and the following Story Op album are chances to see Jonghyun not as a performer, but as an artist and something more personal. It's a simple, refined album but it should be the job of every Shawol to listen through it. RIP Jonghyun - you did so well.

De todos los Cd de Jonghyun este es mi favorito en cuanto al diseño de arte. Me llegó super rápido. El cd estaba un poco sucio por eso le doy 4 estrellas pero no tuve problemas al momento de reproducirlo.
