A nice guilty pleasure!
In the big city in a street-corner junk store owned by the mysterious magician Captain Mancini (Anthony Newley). Dodger (Mackenzie Astin) is a 12 year old orphan who lives with Mancini and after school he works there as his assistant as he falls in love with a lovely fashion designer named Tangerine (Katie Barberie) who is a sight for sore-eyes. However in the weird junk store there is a strange yet magical garbage pail that originally came from outer space years ago and Mancini has kept it secure so that no one could ever open it. But one day Tangerine's tough boyfriend named Juice (Ron MacLachen) with his gang beats up Dodger in the store they accident make the pail fall unleashing a gang of weird looking kids. Their names are Valerie Vomit, Greaser Greg, Ali Gator, Nat Nerd, Messie Tessie, Foul Phil, and Windy Winston as they are gross and disgusting alien-esque kids from some other world as they want to change the life of the poor sap and get him to like the girl that he desires.Based on the popular 80's trading card phenomenon, this live-action attempt to bring the cards to life isn't really as bad as some people say. First off the cards back in 1985 made TOPPS Trading Cards a smash company as the leading makers of trading cards, back then the Cabbage Patch Kids were very popular yet the Topps company thought up an idea to make a trading card series that spoofs and satirizes those dolls in various ways including nausating and violent ways called "The Garbage Pail Kids". The cards were a runaway success with many children even though some parents and teachers weren't too happy about the cards's images but some knew boys loved disgusting things and spawned merchandise of all sorts, then in 1986 Atlantic Pictures got the rights for a feature length movie based on the cards. Written and directed by Rod Amateau who did some episodes of "The Dukes of Hazzard" didn't do too bad to make the franchise into a movie even though it was made on a low budget with some cheap laytex masks that hardly move on the midget actors that play the title heroes. Sure some stuff doesn't make sense and it feels like a series of tasteless vignettes but it does have a little bit of humor despite bad acting making this a guilty pleasure of mine. The DVD is quite good on the picture and sound quality with one extra which is a trailer to the movie.

Greatest film ever made!
After suffering a serious head injury I really warmed up to this forgotten gem! It’s the “Citizen Kane” of movies! Anthony Newly is sheer magic as is Valerie Vomit and the flatulent stylings of Windy Winston! I like hot dogs! Ghhruughhhhb?

Childhood favorite
I loved this movie as a little kid and hope my kids like it also. Was supposed to get here Friday and it came 3 days early. Can't wait for my son to come home from school to watch it with him.

The Garbage Pail Kids - A RARE TREAT
Silly live action film edition of "the Garbage Pail Kids" cartoon characters. The live action cartoon characters's heads are puppet heads that required off camera manipulation for facial expressions. $$$ and not enough rehearsal time prevented a fully defined puppet facial animation to each garbage pail kid... But never mind that, since the story scenario skips along as the characters develop. Actually, as the film unspools, facial animation improves as the puppeteers gain traction in learning to make their "KIDS" express in facial expressions! Production values are imaginative and interesting considering the project was filmed in a San Fernando Off Sepulveda Boulevard warehouse - where the sets were constructed. Just sit back and have a few chuckles with these bratty garbage pail kid round-UP.

A Bizarre Classic
I’m a 90’s kid and I have introduced lots of my childhood favorites to my son whose now in second grade. He recently discovered the notorious group of Garbage Pail Kids when checking out retro commercials from my time. I’ve purchased this movie for him and he was laughing hysterically throughout most of it but I must admit how much has changed since I grew up. He’s extremely perceptive and even commented himself on how they couldn’t make a movie today with many scenes in this movie. I find it bizarre and the characters so absurdly designed but still entertaining nonetheless. Long live the eighties!

The Garbage Pail Kids Movie
OK OK OK I saw this when it was out but never watched it. Always been curious because heard so bad. Found it for like 4 dollars and had to get it to see. You have 7 Cabbage Patch type things who can sew really good but lived in a trash can to hide from the world. All 7 have unique special gifts from farting, throwing up a lot, peeing themselves etc. etc. They help a nerdy kid with his love for a girl with a bully jerk. I'm glad I saw it but not looking forward to watching it again. Showing it at a crazy party or such would be funny. This had to cost at least 30-40 dollars to make. :)

Out of the garbage pail and into your heart
As a kid I loved this movie. We spent weeks drawing characters and collecting trading cards. The film is bad but in such a good way. It angered parents at the time for its rude crude themes. The acting is horrific (besides Dodger and Captain Manzinie). The effects are cheap and the musical number at the halfway point is cringe as you releasing the GPK are stealing from a store. But what it lacks in good cinema it makes up for in sheer fun. It has charm and 80's nostalgia.Maybe it's the kid in me remembering it fondly but compared to what is uber politically correct in kids movies today it's nice to remember one that did things differently.

Wonderful nostalgia
I got this because I loved the film when I was a kid. I still love it. My husband seen it for the first time and hated it. Tough for him because our son now loves the Garbage Pail Kids thanks to the new books by R.L. Stine (who I also loved as a kid). This is now fastly becoming one of his favourite films.

the garbage pail kids movie
I had this film on video when it was first released and although nobody now knows who the garbage pail kids are they are the grosser version of the cabbage patch dolls the film has been copied well onto dvd it is not for the serious film collector but if you want to laugh at the cheap special effects and rubber suits and toilet humour then buy it you might be surprised.
