Easy to use; streams everywhere you want to stream
We purchased this to replace an earlier model, the Teradek Vidiu Pro. The older version was pretty good, but sometimes glitchy. This new version has a better UI/UX, and overall a smoother operation. The Sharelink service makes it very easy to stream to more than one service at a time, or you can stream to one service through the Vidiu X's own interface. Everything is quick and easy. I also like the ability to do a local recording to SD card or USB stick. We previously did a local recording on a separate device.Only cons: the device does get a bit warm, so watch where you put it and make sure it gets sufficient air. And, I had to reset the setup the first time, as I was having a connection issue with Sharelink. Not sure if I did something wrong, or there was just a glitch in the system, but the second time through, everything worked great. And the setup is very quick and easy.

Powerful little box.
This encoder is streaming our church services. We required excellent audio signal. This box gives us the audio bitrate we need to sound as good as the live event. We have an inexperienced team and are able to do the job! Thanks, Teradek and amazon!

Piece of junk
Drops audio and video randomly- only solution is to hard power cycle the device, which is not an option while streaming.I have had this for 4 weeks for streaming church services- only 2 out of 5 have streamed successfully.

Smaller, faster boot time, does not encode to mp4 natively
For the pros: Much smaller footprint than previous models, much faster booting!, better control over the video recording starting/stopping independently of the streaming. Encoder gets very hot on bottom, but according to their website this is expected and not a problem.Cons: Problem is that they removed the option to record to mp4. You now have the option of recording to mkv or ts. While these are just packaging and inside it's all mp4, there are still many players that don't recognize these, and I'm getting a lot of complaints from customers that they can't play the videos.I reached out to the Teradek team, but got a canned response with no follow-up, very disappointing.

I'll better go with liveU
I have been trying to use this device for 2.5 weeks mostly for IRL streams via their sharelink network bonding service connected to the Twitch streaming platform.Pros: Small. Easy to set up and use. Most of the settings can be changed directly from the device by using internal menus & joystick. Can aggregate in a simple way at least 3 types of connection such as wifi, modem, and ethernet. Simple mobile APP and web interface. Additional gain can be added for the audio lain - this is great for quiet mics. The web interface has access to the log files - If you would like to read them from you PC you can simply download them.Cons: For a ~20hr of streaming got ~10 disconnects and stream stops without any visible reason. The device can randomly disconnect from their (sharelink) service. Streaming also can randomly stop if you need to change a mic on the go.Excessive heat - This looks okay especially in the wintertime, but you need to prepare your bag for the summer or mount it on top of your camera with the fan, still not sure if it helps.A limited number of compatible USB modems you can use - Please check it before you buy it.Hard to troubleshoot issues without a PC.Just one camera mount hole on the bottom of the device. Be prepared to have it upside down if you want to connect it to the bottom if you rig.

Easy to use, even when you’re technically inept
I’ve never used any kind of video streaming device in the past so I have absolutely no frame of reference. In fact, until last month I had no idea I needed something like this in my life, but after months of lockdown a buddy and I decided to try out live-streaming on both Facebook and Twitch (a little talk show format and my buddy’s gaming).I’m technically inept, and when it comes to things like this I’m usually the first to give up and go to the pub, but setting up the Vidiu X was simpler than I expected. Well, OK, let me be a little more honest. Watching my friend set up the Vidiu X made it seems really simple, but I at least had a vague understanding of why this cable was going into that socket, and now I’ve had a little play around with the app I think I’ve got a pretty firm grip on it.Right now we’re stuck at home so everything is pretty simple, but I’m excited about the mobile possibilities this thing offers once we have our jabs and we can go roaming. The Vidiu is small and lean enough to be powered by my power bank, and with my camera and the app on my phone it seems as if even I’ll be able to figure out how to stream in HD from the middle of the Gobi Desert, which seems like a pretty cool prospect.I’m sure I’ve only explored a fraction of the features this thing has to offer, but the impression I get from what little I understand is that this thing just makes streaming easier. I’ve no idea if it would have been possible to simultaneously stream to both Facebook and Twitch without it, but in any case this thing makes it so simple that I’ve been able to grasp which buttons I need to push to make it happen.
