Q: Why does the camera take lossy jpgs instead of lossless tiffs? generating a tiff from a jpg that has already lost detail seems weird to me.

Your observation is spot on from a preservationist's perspective. In the Archival world seeking long term preservation for images .tiff format is the only traditional tool. However in our Archive we would seldom use CZUR to scan high resolution images that we have traditional scanners for. We acquired the equipment to scan written material and bound books etc. (There may be some publications with images.) We convert (save) all to lossless .pdf format. That function is available in CZUR as well as Adobe Acrobat.

Q: Hi, iwould like to scan lp album covers which are just over 12.5" square. if i were to raise the scanner would it capture in focus?

ET18 Pro include the fixed focus mode,however,the scanning format need to be smaller than A3 Size(8,27*11.75 inch),We are afraid that 12.5'square has out of the range.If you would like to have further detail,kindly go to CZUR Website for more comparison.

The Pro has better camera 18MP vs 16MP of Plus and enhanced speed and accuracy. Futhermore, ET18pro can also work with our APP, synchronizing scanned results to the APP so that you can view them via your smartphone. Hope this is helpful to you.
