It Really Works!

My husband loves boiled eggs, but hated peeling them. So did I. Especially when making a large bowl of potato salad. It was such a headache. Against my better judgement, and the thought of having another unused gadget in a drawer, I bought this based on reviews. I really hoped that people were being honest. When it came, I couldn't believe how simple it was. Could it work? I pressed the eggs over the sharp needle, and pressed down. Don't overdue it or you'll get a hole that allows the egg to escape. A nice, smooth downward push gives just enough umph to make the pinhole size puncture. No egg escaped during 3 separate trials. It works! Neither my husband nor I had any trouble peeling the eggs! What an amazing product. Cleaned easily and you twist down on the device to protect you from accidentally pricking yourself on the needle. I still can't believe how well this simple device works. Could you just use a pin without buying the device? Maybe. But it wouldn't be as easy as this. Especially for the price.

Practice with first

Works great, I’ll be honest I broke two eggs in my hand because I was too forceful, it doesn’t need much pressure to pierce the egg and they turned out good peeled easier

Okay, I got this because I am cheap and lazy LOL but I think I had higher expectations. It's pretty cheaply made. The poker is very sharp. Value for the money? I guess so because it wasn't that much money. Easy to use? I think it has to do on what type of eggs you get and where you get them from. Sometimes it pops a perfect hole and does its job and sometimes it destroys the bottom of the egg. Easy to clean? I guess

Works

At first I didn't even know that I wasn't piercing the shell; looked like a hole in the shell............Finally figured out that you have to really push down and twist to actually pierce that shell. It is a strange sensation but when it is actually pierced it feels like the egg shell has broken. The egg will go way down onto that point. Since I figured it out, pierce the Fat end of egg, put the boiled eggs in an ice water bath for 5-10 min, my eggs are perfect and peel so easily. UNLESS the eggs are too fresh; in that case nothing will make them easy to peel. My only concern is that I don't know if I should clean it and how I would do that. I just wipe the point off, lock it down and put it away. If it breaks, I will buy another.

kinda janky

It's a simple gadget but it barely works. There is a little pin and you push the bottom part of the egg on to the little yellow disc. The disc drops down allowing the pin to just barely puncture the egg shell. The problem is there's a little locking mechanism to prevent exposing the little pin when the device is not in use. It won't stay unlocked. So for a dozen eggs you have to adjust and re adjust the little mechanism 2-3 times per egg making for a fussy experience.I probably could have done better with a stainless steel T-pin (washable and won't rust) and a firm but gentle touch.NOT RECOMMENDED

I love this ridiculous little thing

I have one of these bought years and years ago and have just bought one for a relative while we're visiting (to leave behind, but also because I don't want to be without it while I'm here). It's easy to poke the holes without hurting yourself, and it has a handy lock for those who, like me, WILL find a way to self-injure accidentally while digging in a drawer if it is remotely possible. Piercing makes the eggs easier to peel, no question, and it's almost a requirement if you have fresh eggs by commercial standards. If you have farm-fresh ones, ain't nothing gonna help you too much, so manage your expectations accordingly or let them sit for a while, though my hippeh girlfriend says *baking* them rather than boiling or steaming helps on that front (end result is the same boiled-type egg). Please note that the price of this sucker varies widely (by percentage, obvs, as it's only a couple of bucks either way). It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but based on what I paid for mine at the fancy-pantsy kitchen store (admittedly back when dinosaurs walked the earth), the price here is sometimes a bit outlandish, even considering the shipping. (It weighs almost literally nothing so I'm not buying that argument for too much.)To the reviewer who glued on the magnet, my heart is yours forever. Why did that not occur to me? I'm forever gluing magnets and/or tying/sewing strings on things to hang them where they don't belong. Why not my best little egg friend?

WIll shift into lock position when you press down, possible causing a mess

You need it to be turned 99% all the way to the unlocked position for it to work. What happens when you press down on it? shifts every damn time, just enough that its locked. Press down hard enough without knowing and you have egg everywhereHow embarrassing that someone couldn't design this to function properly.

Proof that ther's a soft/hard boiled egg heaven

scenario: Old guy living by himself likes occasional soft boied egg(s) for breakfast.Problem: Of eggs boiled roughly half break (outer shell) while being boiled.Solution to problem: Always use eggs that aren't store fresh, bring eggs up to room temperature by leaving them out (from the frig) so they reach room temperature, and use the egg piercer...it works. Prior to using the egg piercer there were still occasional cracked eggs. Since using the egg piercer the there have been no cracked eggs and eggs are much easier to peel.Summation: Egg piercer is highly recommended.Additional comment: If only someone could come up with a solution to keeping salt free flowing from salt shaker when humidity is moderately high. mainly during the summer months, Forget the nonsense about placing rice grains in with the salt...it "don't" work.
