C2G 27017 Toslink to Mini Toslink Cable (9.8 Feet, 3 Meters),Black

I'd prefer a 3.5 rating on this cable. 3 is a bit harsh but I'm not "4 happy" either. I generously went with a 4 :)I ordered two cables. As long as they don't stop working, I'll be satisfied enough but the build quality makes me a little leery. Both sides fit looser into ports than any other cable I've used. When you connect them, you don't get much resistance on the way in or a really strong "click" to let you know they're seated properly. On the mini side, I even kept applying more pressure than I ever would with a cable like this, because it didn't seem like it was as far in as it should be. The fittings that cover the ends of the cable (the part you hold when pulling or pushing the cable in/out) are also loose, which is again something I've never seen, but that won't affect sound or connection issues. It's just one more thing that reflects poorly on the build quality.The cable does serve the purpose. The sound quality is as good as any other optical cable I've used and they were affordable, so that's all good. With the build quality though, I wouldn't be shocked if they stopped working tomorrow or I start getting connection issues (static, intermittent drops, etc). Hopefully, I'll be posting an update in some months ahead saying "they've held up great," but for now, I wouldn't recommend these to anyone who frequently reconnects or moves the cable around. I doubt they'd hold up or continue to make a solid connection.

I was previously using a stereo headphone jack to RCA left/right analog cable to connect my early 2008 MacBook Pro to my Denon receiver. With this configuration, I would only be able to play in 2 channel stereo. I wondered if it was possible to output digital 7.1/5.1 Dolby/DTS sound from my XBMC movies to my home theater system. This cable was just the solution!The headphone jack on my Mac doubles as an optical audio port. So I just plugged the cable in, and my iTunes music and XBMC movies sounded so much clearer. I no longer hear my speakers "pop" when I turn my ceiling fan on and off. The receiver automatically displays "Dolby Pro Logic...", etc, when the source changes formats from movie to movie, so I know that I am now getting a clean, digital audio signal for my receiver to decode and send out to my 5.1 theater speakers.I chose the Cables to Go version because it has a heavy, flexible jacket that will resist bending and the possibility of breaking the fibre optic cable inside. I and very happy with the quality of this cable. Excellent value for the price of this cable. Will buy again and recommend to others who want to improve their Mac/PC sound and go digital!

It interfaces my MacBook Pro directly to my Bose Cinemate speakers via fiber optic and unleashes their potential to really recreate a 3D audio experience. If you have a digital speakers system such as the Bose Cinemate, you owe it to yourself to experience audio from a digital source. This cable is also very flexible for a fiber optic cable and has the feel of high quality build and materials you would not expect from a cable this inexpensive.I highly recommend this product, as well as TheSmartDigital.com as seller from whom to purchase it.

I always own custom-built computers for my main rigs, but for mobile purposes I've used the Macbook/Macbook Pro lines for a few years now. I love their versatility, a Unix-based OS, and the amazing battery life. The only thing I don't like is that they only have one output...but who cares when you can output any number of digital signals via toslink!Bought these cables to output 5.1 to my receiver and my Logitech Z5500 sound system (both 5.1 systems, one for the main living room and one from my other computer). They work *wonderfully*. On one end you have the mini-TOSlink (looks almost like a headphone cable) and on the other end the standard TOSlink (optical) connection. Plug it in and the MBP sets everything up instantly for great output. I realize the quality of cables has no link to the quality of the sound being outputted (digital signals either work or they don't), but the sound comes through crystal clear with no hand-shake issues and no problems at all!Definitely would recommend this over a $30 adapter or $50 cable. Buying a few more for some friends and spares =P

I use this cable to send audio to my receiver from my MacBook unibody. I have a first generation unibody so audio doesn't get sent through the mini display port. The cable is nice and flexible. My only gripe is with the Toslink interface - not a fault of this cable just of how the connection is set up. The end of the Toslink isn't as easy to plug in as a USB or HDMI cable. The shape of the plastic thing is kind of awkward, so I actually busted one of the ports on my receiver. Luckily I had another "channel" free and am using the "TV" ports instead of the "DVD" ports (which got ruined because of Toslink's poor interface).Again, not a fault of the cable itself, just a fault of the Toslink specifications.
