September Love

“Sometimes it feels like a curse to be this intimate with language.”
Quarantine is the perfect time to let your creative juices flow, and Leav Lang is no exception. "September Love" by Lang Leav is the sugar-sweet, introspective collection of poetry we’ve been looking for, with only a light salting of Covid related matters. This is not a breakup book. Instead, Leav cuts ties with society, and in isolation she looks inwards. While her other books have focused on love and loss, this collection focuses on herself and her own identity. She analyses herself and takes an introspective look at her life and the world around her. Even when she does talk about love, she doesn’t just look at the facts, but instead she analyses her psyche and how she processes her own relationships. As Leav talks about her place on this earth, she talks about humanity and equality across the human race in a simplistic nature.“For once you believe no one is beneath you – you will see no one is above you.”I was glad that Leav addressed Covid without being too over-the-top. Everywhere we go these days, someone is talking about Covid, but Leav brings her usual vanilla sweet words, making the topic feel less of a drag.Leav talks about fate. She talks about letting go and letting her higher self make decisions. She explores the idea of just being and simply enjoying life's ups and downs – an interesting concept when paired with our Covid reality. In the isolation of Covid, Leav seems to understand more deeply what it means to be herself in general and what it means to be herself as a writer.Enjoy some of my favorite quotes from "September Love",“More love is found in griefthan in love itself”“I guess when you let go of the need to know, everything tends to fall into place. It’s okay to dream, to allow your higher self to take care of the rest.”“Sometimes it feels like a curse to be this intimate with language.”“I think that shelter is the ultimateShow of loveAnd I want to protect youFrom everything that hurts”

Love and light in the backdrop of a global health crisis
This anthology is timely comfort and encouragement. Each page echoes my every hope for a kinder, softer world in the anticipated aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you, Lang Leav, for feeding this gasping soul...

Great poetry
Not as good as her earlier work but still really good. A lot better than "Love looks pretty on you", really disliked the direction she went with that one but I'm glad shes back to her usual style.

Meh.
The book itself wasn’t made with the same material as the others I have from her. It wasn’t as durable...kind of cheap feeling, actually. The poetry is okay, but not her best in my opinion. It kind of felt like she put this out because she felt like she had to.

An acquired taste
I enjoy Lang’s poetry and I was so excited to get this book... but it fell flat for me. I struggled to get through it.

November (September) Love
No matter how many times I read/review a poetry collection I still find it a difficult task. Having read all of Lang Leav's poetry collections Love remains a constant theme that runs throughout her writing. This time around September Love feels, like the changing of the seasons, somewhat transitory. Dealing a lot with the movement of time. There's a feeling of contentment arising from a love that's either long gone (and finally coming to terms with the loss) or one that's long-lasting (and finding peace with someone you know so well).Beyond the themes of partner love. I felt like there was also self-love. Being, again, content with who you are and who you're growing into from season to season.I feel like this collection is a bit more soft-spoken, if that makes sense, than her previous releases. The poems are almost, I feel, meant to be savored not rushed through, but ruminated upon. I found myself only maybe reading through a couple of the poems in the collection at a time, putting the book aside, and later coming back instead of taking everything in at once, and I think that's pretty apt for how this book of poems flows.I like that this collection pairs perfectly with the feeling of hunkering down in a cozy blanket as the weather outside cools. Holding onto these poems and keeping those that you love close.

Not gripping. I have other Lang Leav books, but this isn't one I would pick and read again.

Item sujo e manchado
