2 Cats, 1 Toy, 1 Day, 6 Hours of Play Already

The media could not be loaded.  My cats love this toy! I received yesterday and the tuxedo (from the video) has already put about 6 hours of play time in (more about that soon). They both young, indoor cats. The tiger colored cat snuck out once and brought a mouse back in with her-they way they congregate around and play reminds me of that (except I can touch this toy for them).Only two real negatives, but for a $7 toy that's pretty incredible.1) It really on works on hard surfaces...but it works soooo well2) The battery life for LR44's (battery that comes with it) is about an hour. Fortunately, I have a few sheets of these batteries--but if you want to just let it run to entertain kitty--should get these somewhere and just know that about every hour, or so, you will need to change (but I doubt every cat has the play attention span that the tuxedo cat does).I look for great, well made toys for them to keep there interest...this is certainly at the top.Update on 10/18--Hexbug's are amazing toys for cats. This ended up being the first of five Hexbug's they have now. I purchased the Hexbug nano Zone at a retail store (comes with two Hexbug's that are 2x the speed of this (no tail) and a big Hexbug with a red light that zooms around... probably 3x speed. Then, I purchased the Hexbug Nano moon station (kids toy) because it has a Zipline. After I played with it, the vertical movement (the space station comes with three small attachments that allow it to slide down the line), I saw how much they were fascinated by it.I don't recommend doing this...but if you really want to make a cat who spends hours following any real insect possible...I created a 50-60' zipline with tightly stretch yarn tied at the top of a window dressing and extended it down to a leg of a couch (25-30° angle works). With the zipline harnesses from the Space station, I put the Hexbug on and let gravity plus the vibration do it's thing. I tried to have all three go at once, but one of the cats figured out that it didn't always need to wait for the Hexbug to reach within jumping distance and could just hit the "zipline" to get the bug off. Then I did one at a time.To be completely honest, I haven't played with a toy in over 30 years, but I really really enjoy being an active participant in designing the toys that my cats will enjoy.I could not recommend a cat toy more than this product line.* One note-the LR44 batteries last for about an hour per Hexbug and if you use them like I do, to entertain the cats while I am busy with other things, these batteries add up. I luckily had a few sheets of LR44's, but I am going to look for rechargable ones as soon as I update this post

Best in certain circumstances

This is based on seeing a former roommate's cats play with one, and my recent purchase of one for my own cat.Be aware of a few things before buying:1. You want to use this in a room that has no small (about 1/2" or larger) gaps behind or underneath heavy furniture, because it has a seemingly unerring ability to find the smallest possible opening it can fit into and wiggle right in within seconds of being placed on the floor. You will then have to move said heavy furniture to retrieve it, or slowly descend into madness Telltale Heart-style until the battery dies. Large, open hard-floored spaces work best. I have not attempted to use it in a room with a rug, but I can't imagine it would work, given the weakness of the motor and the teensy little "legs".2. This will, however, act as a very thorough duster for said out-of-the-way gaps. The little fluffy bit on mine emerged dragging an enormous dust bunny. So, bonus?3. As other reviews mention, it mostly moves in circles, occasionally redirecting when it hits a barrier at the proper angle. Due to the nature of its movement, the slow sneak-and-pounce hunting technique most cats use on toys/prey doesn't really work, so instead they tend to just follow it around and bat at it a bit rather than actually hunt/stalk it.4. If you have, as I do, a total scaredy-cat, they will be mildly wary when it is first placed on the floor and utterly spooked as soon as it finds a corner or other recess and proceeds to buzz loudly until dislodged. It was worth a shot, I guess.

Cat loves this!

My cat really loves this toy, and he’s an adult.

Works on hard surfaces, crept under stove

This little toy (about the size of the head of a toothbrush, with a small tassel attached) is kind of cool, though it only works on hard floors. It spends about 70% of its time flipped upside down, which produces an irritating rattling sound, but if I can enjoy my morning coffee unattacked, fine. It took a while for our cat to warm up to it, now she finds it interesting/perplexing. The package says the toy will right itself when flipped over, but very rarely does that happen. Update: It can and will creep under a stove or refrigerator and get stuck, so be sure not to let THAT happen! Kitty alerted us to this misfortune but was no help in getting it out. My photo shows some of the tools you may need to extract it from under the stove.

One of my cats favorites

My cat loves the fuzzy thing that trails along behind the Hexbug. Very small though.

Only toy my cat hasn’t gotten sick of

This thing is a guaranteed solution for when my cat is driving me crazy and wants to play. I just turn it on and walk away and my cat is happy as a clam. The randomness of it really kicks off his inner hunter. Must buy. Only negative is you’ll have to stock up on batteries which are actually pretty cheap.

Cat got bored quickly with it

Was looking for automated toys for our indoor kitty. Tried the PetSafe Dancing Dot but it's way too fast for her (although now that she's older it's a little better) and she'd be more interested in cleaning herself than chasing it. If that thing has a speed control it would be a winner.Saw the videos for this thing and thought it would be something fun for her. This started out good and she'd pounce on it, but it's got an issue where it just goes round and round in a circle and doesn't go straight at all. So she eventually got bored with it and doesn't even like chasing it anymore. It will most of the time self-right itself when it gets knocked on its side, or when the cat smacks it, so that was a good thing. Didn't even go through the battery it came with since she's so disinterested in it now. If I remember correctly it uses common LR44 batteries, only needs 1.

Fantastic simple toy to vary their playtime!

I'm always looking for different toys to change up their playtime and this is just such a simple cheap option and the cats love it. I tried it on the carpet and it didn't move but works perfectly on any hard floors. It does go on its side sometimes when the cats swipe at it but it manages to right itself relatively quickly. It's not something they should be left alone with due to the small parts, string and battery but fabulous for a distraction while I'm in the kitchen. Of course the string and fluffy bit will be destroyed in due course but for the price I'm not complaining!

Actually pretty good for such a small, inexpensive toy!

Keeps our cats entertained - well, for about 15 minutes at a time. But even after a couple of months, they still like it. It's taken quite a pounding, but still going. Replacement batteries cheap and easy to find online. Bounces off obstacles and corrects itself quite well.

It tends to go around in circles!

My cats just sit and watch it, they don't really play with it much. It would be good if it didn't go around in circles all the time- nevermind.

Doesn't self correct

Once she bat's it it ends up on its back and it didn't self correct so you've got to monitor play time.

The cat is obsessed! but better on hard floor

The media could not be loaded.  On carpet, it makes a light buzzing sound and still moves a bit. the cat loves batting it around.on hard floor it moves more easily and she's able to chase itcomes with a small watch battery already inside.highly recommend... perfect toy for when they need to entertain themselves!
