Dull colors, no longer bright and vibrant.
Very disappointed. I had this book as a child and remember the pictures being so bold and vibrant like the book advertised but it isn’t at all. Someone had mentioned this in an earlier comment and suggested getting the soft cover as it was only the board book that had lost the bright colors, no, apparently they’re all dull now.

COLOR FAIL: The pale pink, not-so-ripe strawberry
The pale pink not-so-ripe strawberry... I highly recommend the book, but not this seller’s lame, muted version. RED is IN the name; the color of strawberry is supposed to draw you in...heartbreaking. I will have to find an old copy elsewhere (or maybe just a different print) for my nephew’s upcoming birthday party. Bummed that I missed this comment in the other reviews... didn’t occure to me to check.

Not the same as the hardcover
My daughter loves this story so much. We have the larger hardcover version with paper pages. I bought the board book as a gift. I’m disappointed at the condition it arrived but also it is missing a page. They put the end of the story on the back of the book. Not a big deal but we definitely prefer the hard copy over this board book. Color is great though unlike other reviews.Edit: they were quick to resolve the issue of it being damaged!

Improved since I last purchased this board book
This is the second board book copy of Red Ripe Strawberry that I have purchased. I still have the first copy I bought, the recently purchased copy was given as a gift. The newest purchased board book is larger than the first time I purchased it and it has more pages. The board book edition that I still own has the last page of the story on the back of the book, this one does not (definitely an improvement). The illustrations are beautiful, the strawberry is red. It seems that the printing error of muted colors has been fixed. As for the story, it is a true classic. This is a book that you will actually enjoy reading over and over again to your littles.

Beautiful Book... On Paper
We would gladly have granted a five star review for this book but for the fact that the more recent board book edition we received was disappointingly dull colored. The original hardcover copy that we borrowed from the library was beautiful and the kids and I could totally sympathize with the little mouse for wanting to eat that red ripe strawberry. It looked delicious. Same clever story in our board copy but if I were the mouse here I would just let the old bear have that lack-luster piece of fruit. If, however, you are thinking about purchasing a paper copy of this book then go for it.

Want to Teach Young Children to Love Reading?
For pre-readers to beginning readers, the picture is what tells the story. This book invites you to pore over each page, the art work is captivating, and the text is lyrical., rhythmic enough to facilitate memorization, beautiful enough to make this a favorite read aloud for parents and for children. As an educator, mother of 4 (now grown) children and an avid reader, this book still delights.

ripe strawberry.
First published in 1984, a picture book in which the Little Mouse will do all he can to save his strawberry from the Big, Hungry Bear, even if it means sharing it with the reader. The Little Mouse and the Big Hungry Bear are known and loved by millions of children around the world. Little Mouse loves strawberries, but so does the bear...How will Little Mouse stop the bear from eating his freshly picked, red, ripe strawberry.

Favorite Children's Book in Board Form
I read this book to my children who are all now grown with children of their own. My copy is falling apart so I bought this board book for 2 of my grandchildren who are 1 and 2, and they LOVE it as much as my kids did. They want to read it over and over again, it's definitely one of their favorites. The story casts a spell and I love how the kids are anxiously waiting for the "bear" to appear. The artwork steals the show though with the cutest pictures I've ever seen in a book. Even my 15 year old grandson still loves The Big Hungry Bear.

An excellent book
I gave this to my niece! The plot is a good metaphor for how the government will always make up or use some rumored threat, to take more power and more of what is yours from you in tax.I hope she realizes that she doesn't need to live in fear. When she is older I will buy her Thomas Sowells Basic Economics. Every child should listen to that audio-book before high school so as to know how commodities relate to each other, so that they are not stolen from by propagandists.

My childhood favourite
I ordered this book for my 2 year old as it was a childhood favourite of mine. It didn't disappoint. The story alludes to "The Big Hungry Bear" who never actually appears, it is the clever tone of the writing and the expressive illustrations which get you to buy into the story. In some ways it's quite a dark tale, but at the moment as my daughter is still so young she just likes the pictures and doesn't fully understand the implications of the story.I remember loving this story up until the age of about 10yrs so I hope it will grow in popularity with my daughter as she grows up. A great buy for any age.

A charming story.
The illustrations are amusing and very cute. The Little Mouse is full of character. I got this for a 3 year old who loves mice and strawberries. A lovely message about sharing.

Big , colourful and interesting for little ones
I bought this as a replacement copy after 6 years for my younger 2 year old child as the older one had been ripped . I just had to as both my children love this book . She finds it very interesting and funny and now tries to "read" it on her own.
