Traffic's co-founder/drummer/vocalist/lyricist began with the beat group the Hellions before forming Traffic with Winwood, Mason and Wood and releasing many stellar solo LPs. He recorded for Island, Polydor, Carerre and Atlantic and teamed with Winwood, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Carlos Santana and Van Morrison; you'll hear all of the above on these 4 CDs plus home demos and other rarities. Two unissued cuts- Love's Got a Hold on Me (with Harrison) and a live 2004 Traffic recording of Dear Mr. Fantasy -join Traffic's Rock 'n' Roll Stew; Dealer; Light Up or Leave Me Alone , and the original Dear Mr. Fantasy ; Jim's Pearly Queen; Eve; Low Rider; Open Your Heart , and more!

Remember Jim
Not exactly indispensable if you're not already a fan, but clearly his contributions to Traffic and pop music in general ought to be honored and not forgotten. I would have liked more Traffic cuts, after all you'd think there is something in the archives worth hearing. The sonics are quite good and the packaging is stellar. There are few revelations here, but it's all high quality music.

Traffic Cleared.
I studied the sheet music with the Traffic recording and it's accurate.

Invader Of The Heart
Whoever put this together did an amazingly wonderful job to honor Jim. His body of work and who was as a person is perfectly represented here. So much great music. Invaders of the heart is my favorite. I will miss Jim forever.

Whale meet Again
A monumental box set from one of rock and rolls good guys, best known for his contributions to Traffic there was defiantly more to Jim Capaldi than his best know work. This carrier spanning set starts with his early band the `Hellions' to his early death from cancer in 2005. The first disc takes us from Hellions, Revolution, deep feeling, touching lightly on Traffic (only 4 songs) via the track that gives the box set its title, before starting on his solo albums. Disc 2 to 3 take us gently through his solo albums ending with the final disc giving us some great demos and a stunning raw rehearsal of that track `Dear Mr Fantasy' again. The music mixes Folk Blues rock Samba and many world music type themesPost Traffic there are myriads of collaborations with a guest list (Clapton Kossoff Santana Winwood and Van Morrison to name a few) which would be/ is the envy of many a professional musician, the tracks from all of his albums handpicked by his wife and do demon straight a musician who seems to be able to fit a song around any musical genre very easily.Sadly missed but great carrier retrospective of a great and largely overlooked man. Thank you universal for making this a special release nicely packaged 4 discs in proper jewel holders in the book set.

Gypsy/Pirate/Star
Having been a long time fan of Traffic, and knowing that Jim was as influential as Steve Winwood in making Traffic, in its various phases, I was still pleasantly surprised at the depth of Jim`s talent, and entirely delighted to discover the full depth of this remarkable talent, much underrated. I`m surprised that he was not "discovered" as a more prominent artist during the 80`s/90`s, but knowing a lot about this man it just shows what support he gave to a lot of bigger names.Buy this and surprise yourself, there is a lot of work here that should heve had better air time.

Gone Too Soon!
I was not introduced to his music until I discovered Traffic in the early 90's. I could not believe I was just working my way past Dear Mr. Fantasy then. After picking up traffics albums I never went any further under the assumption that Steve Winwood was the talent in the band. Not realizing that it was both. This is the first thing I have picked up from his solo career and I will be going back for more. The first two discs in this set are incredible. The third is not bad but suffers from 80's production and then he finishes pretty strong on the forth. I had no idea the "Love Will Keep Us Alive" from the Eagle's Hell Freezes Over CD was written by Mr. Capaldi. The box set sets off on it's musical journey before Traffic. Not bad songs but not much different to the music of the day. But once Traffic started you can really hear his writing shine. There is not a ton of Traffic songs on this. In fact about a third of a disc (if you want a Traffic compilation pick up the 2 CD set Smiling Phases) You then go through his early solo records. Tracks from "Whale Meat Again" (great title) are, in my opinion, the strongest. If you like Traffic or you just like great song writing this should be up your alley. I for one can't wait to pick up those first four solo records. Good thing they to have been rereleased. Record companies don't miss a trick in the book but this time I am glad. If you want to check out more pick up the DVD of the tribute concert for Jim called what else but "Dear Mr Fantasy". His great music done by great artists. Usually I avoid such DVD's but this one is good.

that's love
