Orange Mountain Music was founded in 2001 to document and catalog Philip Glass' music. Almost 10 years later, OMM releases The Philip Glass Sampler, a selection from the catalog now numbering over 50 recordings by one of the most influential composers of our time. The company was started by Glass' long-time Producer Kurt Munkacsi, and by artist/engineer/producer Don Christensen in an effort to consolidate the entire body of Glass' compositions and make them available to the public and scholars. This 21-track compilation includes music from the concert hall (piano etudes, concertos), opera house, and the cineplex (The Hours, Fog of War).

Let it Grow on You
I was first introduced to this artist by the Thin Blue Line soundtrack, which is still one of the most amazing soundtracks ever. If you are a fan, you know how he kind of kneads the dough as it were through repetition of little music segments (i'm sure there's a term for it but i'm no music expert.) When I first listened to it, I liked 3 tracks and couldn't stand the rest. It seemed very disconnected with no continuity as if the tracks were out of order or something. It took me about 8 listens to let it sink in--after all, it is a sampler, so the tracks aren't going to be related to one another necessarily. After the period of adjustment, I am happy with it.

Delightfully different !
I love most of the music that has been performed by Philip Glass - my favorites are Glassworks and Passages. I have to add this to the list of my Philip Glass favorites. It is not the usual Philip Glass and at first that made me unhappy - I was expecting something more like Glassworks or Music With Contrary Motion, but I copied the CD to a thumb drive along with a lot of other music and was listening to it in my van. I grew to really like this music and wondered who the performer was ! When I checked it out and found that it was Philip Glass I was surprised ! This is well worth the money to purchase or download. The music is lively , full of fanfare and very relaxing. On a scale of 1 to 10 I have to give this CD at least a 9. I'm glad he stopped driving a taxi !

Excellent introduction to the Glass catalog
Philip Glass - The Orange Mountain Music - Philip Glass SamplerThe editors and compilers of these 21 selections from the Phillip Glass catalog have done us admirers an important service. Honestly I was acquainted with many of the selections on the CD but there were several hidden gems I had never heard before - time to go CD music shopping! This is an excellent CD for the curious to sample the music of Phillip Glass or for fans to become reacquainted with some favorites. Another plus is the nice low price for the CD - a discerning gift for your musically inclined colleague.

Excellent sampler for your non-Glassian friends
This is a fantastic sampler -- I've purchased 12 of them and pass them around any time I mention Philip Glass and get people responding with confused looks. It's a great primmer/intro to Glass.

big bang for your buck
This CD is amazing! Philip Glass doing what he does best; and the price is unbeatable. It is an excellent introduction to Philip Glass and his music if you are not familiar with him. Also makes a wonderful addition to his other CDs.

Very enjoyable
I was looking forward to receiving it for a while (I am an Amazon international customer for the past 4 years..) Yet by the time it arrived, I was in a terrible mood, during which I could not stand to hear any sound - music-TV-games, nothing.. It had been almost a month silent in the home.. I had given up after trying a couple which did not work, though they had been my favorites for some time.. But as I was curious about this one, one day I loaded the CD in my DVD player, and enjoyed it from begining to the end, and listened it more than once.I am usually fond of the sound of the piano, but this definitely was better than anything I heard before.. Various styles, various effects.. It keeps you listening to it. I also shared it with a friend, whom I trust when it comes to music, and she asked for a copy (quite reassuringly.)Well, though i had heard all kinds of good things about it before, I felt proud of my my purchase when it lifted my spirits in such a difficult period of my life..Maybe I should note that this was my first Philip Glass CD.. But I feel it was the best timing..Enjoy it if you decide to buy, and have some good time..
