Leaks, Threw it out! But there is hope!
I write this review after just opening this pen and having a pool of ink fire out of the pen, onto my hands, paper, desk, and floor. In the process I also ruined a pair of pants with black ink. I never trusted this pen and my misgivings came true. Don't waste your money. Any Jinhao is better. Try the Jinhao X450. Slightly larger but better in the hand, writes smoother, is cheaper, and best of all, it does not leak!!!!Update: I was contacted by the seller and my money was refunded.Update #2 (9/9/2019)I was contacted by the seller and was asked if I was agreeable to have them send me another pen to see if it would be a better experience that the first. I agreed, so here is my updated review. So far, the replacement pen has not leaked. In the hand, this pen feels small. The metal feels very smooth and a user with large hands will need a little adjustment to its size when comparing it to larger Chinese pens like a Jinhao 159. The gold colored nib writes well but not as smoothly as a Jinhao, but to be fair, it lays down less ink and a finer line. In a dry pen, the flow of ink takes some time and effort to get the pen to start, especially when using the supplied ink cartridges. The silver pen looks very nice and is a bit weighty, because of its metal construction. Once the ink was started in the pen, it wrote fine and did not dry out overnight and could be used immediately, the next day. It comes in a nice case but you are paying for it and the price of this pen has increased $5 in the past month and that has a bearing on its worth for the money. If price is an object, then a Jinhao is your best bet but those pens are plastic, screw cap pens. However, when you compare this pen to other metal pens like a Retro 51 Tornado, the Beiluner is less than a half to a third in price and is a better writer, better built, and has a better presentation. The only thing I would change with this pen would to make it with a screw cap. Its press on cap is a tight fit and pulling it apart will amplify any leakage. So far, so good. No leakage evident.

Love it.
The grip section can be slick, but you don't really need a heavy grip on. For a shooter looking at this, hold it with the same force you pull your trigger with and it'll be fine. It's my first fountain pen, but I have to say I'm very impressed, it has me actually wanting to write again. Solved a lot of my issues with ball points, and I'm working on my bad habits because of it. It does have its flaws, but at this price point I can't complain. It's a bit wet with the medium nib, seems to be a #5, so I've got a few coming to try different things. I'd be willing to bet with a fine nib this thing would be perfect. It goes through ink a little bit with the medium nib, but I'm not complaining, lays down a line like a good quality gel pen without feathering or bleeding on Mead in most cases with diamine oxblood and the supplied black cartridge. I'd like to see a darker black, but it's black enough for me. I'm actually blooming around for ink samples now. Had it about a week, and I've put down probably 5 or 6 ml of ink with it already. Had to use a ball point yesterday and realized I've been spoiled. Too bad most fountain pen inks won't write on thermal paper, and arent exactly suited for signing carbon documents. Only 2 things I'll use a ball point for now. I'm hooked.

Comfortable and Writes Well!
This fountain pen is quite lovely! It comes in a sturdy black leather box lined with soft fabric, which is a nice touch to the overall product. The red color of the fountain pen I have received is really pretty too, with black and silver accents. The weight of the pen is nice as well as easy to hold in the hand while writing, especially one such as myself that has tremors. The cap stays on securely as well and has a clip so it can be held in your pocket or elsewhere. It also comes with six tubes of ink that comes in a separate box, stating it is international standard size, which is good cause then it can fit any ink refill of your choice! If you have a bottle of ink, it comes with a converter. There’s even a paper with instructions for the converter as well as inserting a standard cartridge. When writing, the ink drives quickly and does not smudge on regular notebook paper, which is a key note for a left-handed person when looking for fountain pens. I had no issues with smudging and drying time with the ink it comes with as well as writing with the left hand. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this product and highly recommend this fountain pen!

LEAKS!!!!.....UPDATE: NO LEAKS (so far) ON REPLACEMENT PEN
UPDATE: Following my review I was contacted by the seller offering to send me another pen, to make things right and stand by their product. I accepted their offer - because I did want a functioning fountain pen and because it is a beautiful piece of equipment. The pen arrived promptly; however, I was very slow in trying the new pen. I finally opened the nice "leather" box and within it sat a gorgeous red pen. I installed the new cartridge, waiting a few minutes and in began to write beautifully. This is my initial testing of the pen. I will continue to use it periodically over the next week or so. Unless something changes I will be standing by my updated review. This is truly a gorgeous instrument that I hope to use for quite some time. Thanks you for promptly sending a replacement and I apologize for my delay in updating my review. This is a beautiful pen; however, it leaks like a sieve!! I thought that it was odd that after installing the first cartridge that it was empty after my using the pen just a couple times. So, I installed a fresh cartridge and now every time I open the pen to use it there is ink everywhere. I have been lucky so far; because, I've only gotten ink on my papers and all over my fingers; but, thankfully, not on my clothing. I don't know what is wrong with it, but I am afraid to carry it around. And to think I was so excited about the idea of having and using a fountain pen, regularly....Not anymore!
