Good but not perfect
I have installed quite a few systems over the past 40+ years. I like the sound of these speakers. 20 years ago you would have paid $200+ to get this quality sound. The price is dirt cheap. I generally install a dedicated sub when I install a system, so I roll these off at 90hz. Bass wasn't a factor in my consideration when buying these. For $20.00 more you can get some Alpine separates that have a more balanced sound. If you're on a budget then here you go. VALUE for your money. My one gripe. The flush mount tweeter retaining rings couldn't be made cheaper. I found the speakers difficult to mount perfectly flat. The retaining ring is not designed to apply pressure. It sits 3 or 4 mm behind the mounting hole. I believe it's to prevent the tweeter from just falling out. It's really a poor design. I placed a slim foam pad and cut out a hole the size of the speaker. This now sits between the speaker and retaining ring. It applies a little pressure to hold everything in place. The retaining ring can EASILY pop off. I applied a small dab of plastic glue in 2 opposite spots on the ring. Correcting this issue wasted about an hour of my time. So to sum it up, great sound for the money if your on a budget. If you have some skill you can flush mount the tweeters. Sound: B+

Will change your music frequency response levels for the worse compared to OEM.
These new speakers will likely not produce the same level of sound across all frequencies as your original speakers. Different speakers have different frequency response curves, meaning they emphasize or attenuate certain frequencies differently, resulting in variations in sound quality. This difference in frequency response is a key reason why music sounds different on different speakers. I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500, and these have intense high ends and depressed bass response compared to the original speakers. Quality of the speakers are great though!

Spot on.
I've just replaced all 8 factory speakers in my 2004 GMH Monaro/Pontiac GTO/Vauxhall Monaro and these R165S went into the front door (main speakers) and dash top (tweeters), along with extensive acoustic sheeting, and I couldn't be happier. The factory 200w RMS Blaupunkt head unit is now showing its real class, and I've dropped my original plan to change the head unit or add amps to the system. The main speaker fitted with zero modification. I bent the bar that the factory speakers were fitted on to get a better angle on the tweeters, but that's the full extent of mods required. The tweeters can be run from the built in crossover from the main, but I got a better frequency response and more authentic sound using the original tweeter channels.I am getting some unwelcome noise at full volume on tracks with heavy bass, but most of that is coming from less than perfect panel fit on the front doors. I'll fix this when I get a couple of hours spare.FYI - 6.5" Sony Explod 2 ways went into the rear seat side panels & 6.5" Rockford full range 3 ways running from the factory amp replaced the factory "subwoofers" in the rear parcel shelf, which were boxed in very tidily given their minimal height. No subwoofers, no problems. If looking for authentic reference sound the bass volume is adequate and only a few lower end herz are missed. However, if youre a big doof doofer then you would be left wanting.

Not quite 6.5" speaker, but exactly what I needed.
The best thing about buying speakers is that the size is just a suggestion. Some are bigger, some are smaller... who knows? In this case, bigger was bad and smaller was good, so finding these "6.5" speakers that are pretty much just a 6" speaker was a big win. Also, for my application I needed only the midrange section since the car has separate 3.5" speakers for the higher range, so the tweeters included in this box are still in the box. Finding a budget-conscious smaller 6.5" midrange speaker was a tall order, but these guys did the trick perfectly. Although I can't comment on the tweeter section, the woofer does quite well driven by a 45w/channel amp - not huge bass, but good response for the size & power. Very satisfied... one of the most satisfactory speaker purchases I've made in a while!

I didn't realize new speakers made such a huge improvement! WOW!!!!
Installed in a 2008 Kia Spectra. I didn't install the tweeters (yet) since they were difficult to adapt to the stock tweeter location. I really needed the 6.5"s. The stock speakers are garbage, and Kia didn't leave a lot of room to work with behind the speaker hole. I gutted the old speaker and used the mounting ring to adapt these speakers and it worked great. Just cut the old plastic out of the middle, drill a few pilot holes, route the wires through the passage to the back of the speaker, and screw the speaker to the plate, and the plate to the door.I installed these speakers with a combination of FatMat on the door panels. All I can say is WOW...what a difference. Was it the FatMat on the doors or these speakers that made it sound great...? Probably a combination of both...but I am looking to get another set now for my truck. It was incredible.
