Fashion Writing and Criticism: History, Theory, Practice

More Fashion Writing Would Have Helped Me
I was kind of hoping for more fashion writing and examples. There's a lot of history and theory in here but still considering I have no fashion basis and my last reading on criticism was probably in a philosophy class fifteen years ago it was an easy enough read. I could follow along and all that. It just wasn't really what I was looking for on the subject manner.

Excellent history of theory and fashion writing. The last chapter fell short for me.

Disappointed
Fashion writing and criticism is 3/4 focused on the birth of the critic, taken right back to the days of Aristotle and Plato, but rarely are the initial outlined principles linked to fashion writing until the very end, and even then it is succinct and slightly derogatory towards the new school of bloggers and fashion in general. It seems to want to make the point to justify the value of fashion as an art form worthy of theory and critique, yet there is an undertone of academic snobbery towards that very subject matter. In the historical section of the book many sources are sighted that are well-researched and reliable and the fashion section is poorly written with less sources sighted (ironic) with very brief evaluative text.It will not help you to improve your fashion writing, rather give you more a history of criticism and leave you to piece together the difference between art criticism and fashion criticism for yourself, without helping to distinguish what constitutes a well written fashion piece.
