An almost excellent sat nav
Really easy to configure and use. Excellent display, a lot to like. One niggle, it misses junctions and roundabout which are not important to the journey, in every case you want to go straight over the junction/roundabout and the map shows this, but there are no audio directions, and i find that disconcerting. But i have no regrets, it does an excellent job.

A good satnav
I have been using garmin satnavs for years. I find them very easy to follow. Sometimes they do tend to take you to your destination via strange routes and I have had my share of wrong instructions in streets with dead ends, however overall I find them so far, the best in the market in their category. I appreciate that they tell you which lane to take and speed limits are usually right. Garmin DriveSmart 55 MT-S 5.5 Inch I had to return thought and go for the 6.95 inch model, for two main reasons. 1) the sound was distorted and it sounded muffled, 2) the screen (for me) was too small. So far so good, I depend on my satnav to take me safely to my destinations, however I also use google maps navigation as I find it even better on some occasions. I have tried tomtom and I could not use it with the same ease that I use garmin.

It does what it says it will
I have used a Tom Tom for years, so I was reluctant to change. I got a Tom Tom with the same features as this Garmin for the same price and I was disappointed that the map display was poorer than the one it replaced. Then I tried to set up the voice control. I can only assume there is a software glitch because it never happened. Then I tried to set up the smart data feature, it never happened. The devices were successfully paired but the satnav would not play ball. I called the technical helpline, which was answered by someone who spoke English as a second language. I have no problem with that, I admire anybody who can learn to speak a foreign language. The difficulty was trying to explain the problem to someone with a pre-read to work from. So I returned the Tom Tom to the retailer and got a refund. I saw on the customer reviews afterwards my problem was a common one for that model. The Garmin came in a box which spoke "professional". The voice control was simple to set up, and it offers a useful list off common commands. Unfortunately my smart phone (Hisense) is not compatible with the Garmin mobile app so I cant use the smart data, although it is paired to the device. The map display is very clear and sharp, I`m pleased the Tom Tom failed.

Works, even when I’m programming it!
I’m not good with tech, and I needed to travel from Derbyshire to a high mountain top pass in Wales. My late wife was the navigator, I once got lost looking for a village south of Derby, so help was required. It turned out the pass wasn’t in the Welsh shire I thought it was in and I’d got the name wrong in both English and Welsh, Oops! Two days later I found it!If an idiot who doesn’t know how to use the tech, can find a mountain pass, somewhere in North Wales; that isn’t where I thought it was; that I have the wrong name of; that we visited several years ago, (the sat nav needs a more specific address.) Then on the early afternoon of the second day, find, not only the pass, but the exact spot! What else is there to say? I was born, both in the last millennium and the middle of the last century. As a kid this WAS science fiction, if I can get these results, anyone can.

What, no pouch ?
It does a good job. Clear display. Touch response is good. 5.5 inches is just the right size imho. I am pleased to see they haven’t changed the user interface, so if you’ve had a Garmin before you’ll be able to use it straight out of the box.If you are right handed you can usually find somewhere to stick it on the rhs of the screen - which you can’t do with a built-in nav btw !Big disappointment is you don’t get a pouch. When I buy spec’s they come with little case or soft pouch to stop them getting scratched. The display unit needs something - which needn’t be fancy - just to stop the screen getting scratched when it’s in the glove box.
