9-Piece Metric Hex Driver Bit Set 1.5-8mm - Taiwan By ProTools

So, I really only needed 2 of the sizes for use on my bicycle, I could not find any 1/4" metric bits in my tool box and that was a huge problem. I do suffer from the mentality that he (or she, can't leave anyone out these days) who dies with the most tools wins. Anyway, if I find there is something I don't have and I need it then I have to buy it. Anyway, I have made it 39 years and not needed this size of 1/4" bit so I figured I was safe going with a less expensive brand probably made in china. I usually buy higher quality tools for things that I will use a lot, just makes sense. Anyway, wanted...needed...these and the price was good and they seem to be working just fine for working on bikes. If I somehow end up breaking one of these I will kick myself for going cheap but I really don't see that happening with these. I wouldn't recommend them for use in an impact, or for high torque applications.

I bought a new table saw that came with cheap metric allen wrenches. I was able to finish almost all the assembly until the wrench itself rounded on the last screw. I tried using the closest English style allen wrench I had and stripped the screw head, naturally. The hardware store didn't have metric bits but I bought an EZ out kit and a couple new screws. I studied up on what to buy for next time and decided on this set, which has all the sizes I need for the saw. I wanted bits, not allen wrenches because some areas are hard to reach. I'm very pleased with this set. They work well with a magnetic screwdriver handle. The larger ones may even work with my 1/4 impact driver, but never the small ones.

Decent quality for the price. One of the few sets that included a 1.5mm in the set. No issues with rounding out or stripping the heads of screws.

I have had an extremely hard time finding a good selection of hex driver bits. I shopped at my local True Value, Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowe's, Harbor Freight, Tractor Supply, Auto Zone, Car Quest, Advance Auto Parts, and probably a few others. Not one of those stores had a decent selection. The best I could find were mega-packs of bits that had dozens of the same screwdriver tips, torx bits, security bits, but only a few token hex bits here and there. Finally I found this, and I have purchased several sets.

I bought this set to put in a multi-tool kit for a bike, so I'm not putting any more than about 8Nm of force on them. At the forces required to fix a bike they hold up well and don't round off, better than other cheap bit sets that turn to shavings if you slip. I wouldn't put these in an impact wrench and torque stuff down super hard though.

I bought these specifically for building IKEA furniture. I built a whole pile of things for a new apartment, and I encountered 3 different allen key sizes, and all 3 were covered by this set. Almost everything was the middle size (4mm?), with a handful of screws taking the next size up or the next size down.I don't know if they are super heavy duty or anything, but they fit the standard hex bit holder on my DeWalt drill, and I didn't manage to break any of the bits I used. Being able to use my drill with the adjustable torque setting and a bit holder with a drive guide (extendable metal tube that holds the screw straight) made the process so much easier, and I didn't strip a single hole.

It always amazes me that Amazon wants us to rate products the day after we receive them. In this case they asked for ratings on "thickness" and "sheerness". I'm not sure what they mean in the context of driver bits, so I gave them 4 stars for an inane question. As to these driver bits, they are in a cute little organizer that is labeled, which is great. As to their adherence to specifications for metric driver bits, and as to their longevity, Amazon will have to wait until I have need to use them. They look fine, so I'm really not worried. I don't often need a metric driver bit, so it may be a while.
